what's going on in this thread, guys?
Anyways, the RIAA doesn't care namely because no idiot is gonna download a 50 + meg file just for one song. :O
Also all major cons get permission for the labelling companies of the respective groups used before showing the vids.
The best effects are the ones you don't notice.

I wrote an essay about copyright near the end of last school year, and I did a bit of research about legality of AMVs and fanfics. Unless they are parodies, they technically violate copyright.
I doubt the RIAA would try anything though. Like fanfics, there is no money loss. The worst that usually happens is a request to take down the AMV/fanfic. Going to court would be a waste of time and money for them. They would probably spend more money for legal aid then what they win. And besides, courts hate dealing with trails like that.

This is one thing I though of.
This might be streching it, but since AMVs help advertise anime series do you think the anime companies will come to are aid?
Also artisit interpritations are leagal. Like I know some one who goes to chalking festivals and does other artists drawings, but in chalk and changes a some stuff here and there, that might be the same in the AMVs case. I mean we are artists interpriting anime and songs. We could use that. Of course that is still streching it. again.
And there is always AMVs at cons and they are offical, well at least the ones I went to like the one in Anihime. So if we use it there then why not the net? Once again I go
I bet one day will be sued for singing the song on the streets as a way of give out music
I guess if all else fails I hate two katanas

Age isn't the factor; time and money is. I would sue a 12 year old if I can get my money's worth. If the RIAA try to sue, they would probably lose money because with cases like these, the money earned isn't enough to cover legal cost (unless the damages caused by the AMV is very high).bum wrote:theys are people that sued a 12year old girl. what makes you think they wouldnt bother with this site ?
This is sometimes true. It is up to the company to decide whether or not they think it's positive advertisement and that they want it. Usually they don't mind.Evangelion Unit 01 wrote:This might be streching it, but since AMVs help advertise anime series do you think the anime companies will come to are aid?
