MPEG-4, as stated in above posts.
Thought so, but the continued discussion afterward had me wondering if I'd read it right, as that would mean that this is a non-issue to begin with...

Trying to figure out what to add to a thread when you've stayed up all night is difficult. o_<.

I have a PSP, and I can't describe how beautiful my AMV collection on it is. The screen is just so gorgeous. Besides the abject prettiness, I've found having portable AMV goodness comes in more handy that you'd imagine (most recently, while getting the oil changed).

I'm not planning on encoding specifically for PSP, except for myself. If there's actually a demand for it, I'm sure I'll upload that encode somewhere. Otherwise, I'll just release it in the pretty-when-it's-fullscreen-on-the-monitor encode. Either way, it's not like it's difficult to transfer the file onto PSP anyway. There's not really a need to release a file specifically for PSP use. ^_^

I haven't gotten the 1-gig Memory Stick Duo, so I haven't seen what AMVs look like on the PSP yet...

I have something better than a PSP, it's called a laptop and i can put whatever i want on it AMV and movie wise, no spending oodles of money for me since I already did !

I'd use a DS over a PSP any day

I wouldn't do an AMV (specially considering i haven't done one in so damn long)

but i would rather do like a special kinda fandub show, like Welcome to Otakudom: the Series or some shit like that. think that would be better off for PSP, but i'm a DS dude so wouldn't know.

Well, the article Scintilla linked to said the format used on the PSP is AVC (obviously in the MPEG-4 container, judging by the pictures used there), so I would imagine that, except for the resolution restrictions, future .mp4 encodes would be compatible.

I'm certainly not thinking about releasing stuff for PSP, mainly because I have no use for it, and I don't have enough .mp4 compatible software (not to mention .mp4 compatible software that plays it correctly) to make me want to put AVC in the MP4 container. I already use Matroska for that.

its completely useless and lazy to make a file for the PSP audience. Just learn how to use PSP Video 9 and compress/change to MPEG-4 yourself. It took me 2 minutes to learn the program, and in 5 minutes I had mine, Bote's, and SSJVegita's vids on my PSP :D
