I've had 2 such stints of lack of motivation, each one right before I switched programs (WMM-Ulead, and now Ulead-?). I just knew what I wanted to do, but the software wouldn't let me do it. I went about a month and a half last time without even thinking about working on a video, until I got my new program. Same thing is happening with me right now, and who knows how long it'll take this time before I get the creativity back again ...

A lot of times I'll go a while without editing anything, and then I have to MAKE myself get back to work, because I just don't feel like doing it. Once I actually get started and start seeing some results, I'll WANT to keep going, and I will usually edit every single day for a while.

Sometimes I feel like I'd never get anything done if it wasn't for deadlines.

Kinda sad, really. In 2003 I just finished a video whenever and sent it in to whatever contests had deadlines coming up; two years later, my AX/Otakon video turned out to be somewhat of a rush job (hence the version updates), and my AWA Pro video certainly isn't the most inspired thing on the planet.

But what Zarxrax said: once I can force myself to get back into the editing flow, it's easier to keep going. Inertia, if you will.

I'm also in something of a slump right now.

They just come and go. Kind of like playing Unlimited SaGa.

I'm currently a bit of editor's block, namely I have 35 seconds that took me about a week to do, and now deciding how to keep the pace/concept going is killing me. >.<

Although, I find beta testing other videos helps make me feel motivated, if anything it gets my mind back into editing mode :P

I'm kinda losing the will because I had a nice collection building up and now I'm down to a small few dvds because I'm about to transfer to another school and money is tight, so whenever I need money for basic things (like faxing forms to the school), I've been selling my dvds to get it. =/

Ah well, maybe when I start buying anime again and seeing new series I'll get back into it.

But if you do, then whatever you do, don't call it "retiring".

And don't make a big deal of it either.
