How did you start making AMVs?

My first time
Well lets see here, my roommate actually got me into Anime, and after watching that nonstop for a couple of months, he introduced me to AMV's My first Anime was GTO, so he though it appropriate to show me Hard Knock Anime, and I loved it. I watched a million or so AMV's from his computer, while he kept telling me he was going to make one, I thought that was a cool Idea and started playing around with his Premiere myself. My first AMV was never really completed, more or less a test of the program, since I never used it before. And it wasn't until I moved that I actually made an AMV. While I have only completed one, I have started a couple of others, and have many more ideas. Each project teaches me something new about Premiere, and maybe when I can find the time, I'll actually finish another one.

At my first convention (Megacon '03), I happened to sit in on the AMV contest. The videos there were high-quality and quite impressive, especially since I'd never seen any before. Afterwards, I knew that editing was something I wanted to try. So I did a few searches, found animemusicvideos.org, and read all the guides available at the time (about three times though for EADFAG). A few months later, I'd finished my first video, and I've been editing ever since.

In 2003 I got back into playing final fantasy games. Coming off of a 7-8 year hiatus from that last game I had played FF3us snes. I was curious what I could find on kazaa for FF using a broad search and low and behold there were a bunch of music videos using the footage. So I downloaded a bunch of them and the more I watched, the more I wanted to try it myself.
First I tried to find good quality footage off various websites and p2p proggys, but I hadn't found anything to my tastes. Out of frustration of not finding great looking quality clips, I started my year+ long search on how to rip the clips myself. Actually took less time to find out how to get certain games, but others were a pain.
Once I had my clips I opened up Windows Movie Maker ver.1 and started experimenting. I pounded out a video one week later. I didn't know where I could distribute other than messenger, so I began another long quest for free hosting. Funny thing is, I forgot about this place. Someone sent me a video link from the org and I had to become a member to download it, but because of the 14 day waiting period, I forgot about the site till later. May 2004 I found the site again and about the same time I've been experimenting with Premiere. ^^
rest is history...

I went and took a picture of every weapon/ summon (I named each knight ;p)/ enemy skill, everything including the hacked squirt gun and umbrella or whatever ;p did you get that?? cuz I lost it.LuluandAuron wrote:Well we got our first computer when FF7 came out (1 gig) and between crashing the bloody thing and revieving it, I managed to collect probably every picture and fanart from FF7. Put it on powerpoint and play music along with it.

I didn't even see an amv before I made my first one... I thought I was so smart -_- I only use virtual dub + I converted the episodes to lq divx3 encodes and cut the fansubs up from their! it looked bad... aah the innocence of oblivity.trinigal wrote:One day i just thought "hey, i've seen a lot of amv's why don't i try to make one on my own" and the rest is history.

I got into trying to scam two credits in high school. We had to do a project for a tech class, and we were good friends with the owner of a gamepower store so for our project we decided to make a "promo video". We spent all semester playing playstation and got about 12, 6 hour tapes of footage, and edited together 4 straight with 8mm editting deck and mixing boards.
I liked them so much I started making alot with my s-vhs vcrs at home.
It wasn't until I started going to Anime North a few years later and saw the comp that I realized what a big hobby it was.
I still have all those old vid's on vhs though. They suck now but for the time and equipment I still happy with em.
