If you are doing this for your own entertainment, (in other words, you're not interested in AMV contests, anime conventions, the top 10%, receiving praise, etc), then the only person you should be worried about impressing or failing is you. As long as you enjoy your own video, impressing others and what others have to say should be the least of your concerns.
Many of us start with a song and then soon enough we figure what anime (if any) would fit the song. Then we proceed from there with the idea. We pay attention to the lyrics and meaning of the song, and what results depends on our idea. (Others start off withe anime and then figure what song would work.)
The key idea to structuring an AMV is thinking about your idea, the song that you are using, and making sure everything fits.

I can relate to that one. I'm mainly trying to satisfy myself (well, at least with most of my videos I'd probably say), but I still like to show off my work. I also like to experiment alot. Sometimes the experiments are successful, sometimes they're a total disaster. For example:I made two Speed Racer AMVs that are romance-themed, and I'm pleased with the end result on both of them. 917's got a very good point there.megaman917 wrote:If you are doing this for your own entertainment, (in other words, you're not interested in AMV contests, anime conventions, the top 10%, receiving praise, etc), then the only person you should be worried about impressing or failing is you.
