-'Requiem' - Geinoh Yamashirogumi (Akira OST)
-'No One But You' - Queen (to give an idea, the surviving members of the band wrote this one (only new post-Mercury recording they've made with the remaining 3 only) as (in their words) 'a tribute to all those who pass before their time')

Try any song from Chris Isaak's album Forever Blue. A whole album of nothing but angst and heartbreak.

Some other choices:
"For No One" by the Beatles
"Isn't It a Pity" by George Harrison
"Downbound Train" by Bruce Springsteen
"Love and Happiness" by John Mellencamp
"O Death" by Ralph Stanley (in particular, the haunting a capella version from the soundtrack to O Brother, Where Art Thou?)
