AMVs are a hobby that mean different thing to people who make them
- They can be just for entertainment (nothing wrong with that if that is what you wanted out of it)
- They can convey a meesage or point of view you want people to see
- They can be made to stur emotions (sentimanetality, romance, etc)
- They can help to express your thoughts on the anime your using (for example, I did a Captain Tylor video to show the that I enjoy the show for the characters and thier emotions rather then just the humor)
- Or even just to learn editing, techniques or hone skills
I used all the above in making video. sometimes in combination and sometones just one by itself

I have. The answer has always been:SuperFusion wrote:You ask yourself, "why the hell am I doing this?"Otohiko wrote:...and if I fail to be entertained and still see value in it?
"I don't know."
And that's when I decided that since I don't know and I still feel compelled to do it, it's probably the right thing to do.

I'm gonna be pissed because someone makes an AMV for no reason? The hell do I care. I may question you about it, but in the end, it's not something I'm losing sleep over.trythil wrote:To piss off people like you, who try to assert things that they have no evidence for.SuperFusion wrote: The only purpose of an AMV is for enertainment. If you have fun editing, good. If not, the hell you doing it for.

I would agree, but in my case I would add that the accumulation of fangirls/groupies is a pretty good aim as well.Otohiko wrote:If my purpose in AMVs would be to entertain, I would shoot myself.
My aims with AMVs are:
To dispense with the inherent and delineated.
To destroy the viewer's expectations, perceptions, and views of the world, art and society.
To yell "FUCKER" at the moon.

If anything, AMVs turned me into an avid groupie

the purpose of an AMV..
"OPINIONS! AND QUICK COMMENTS, SO I CAN GET ATTENTION AND SO PEOPLE WILL THINK I AM COOL!!"
or
because I like making them, film, acting, editing, and various things like that have always been an interest for me, I figured AMV is a good place to start learning these things a bit better (maybe not acting, but film type stuff) its practice for when I want to move on to bigger things..
I guess I could always just take classes lol but this is much more fun plus this site is a great place to get brutal honest feed back... from both sides of the fence lol... it keeps my ego in check.

I think Vlad did a pretty good job at summing it up (bastard )
AMVs are a hobby, and people do them for different reasons. I do them because it's an artistic outlet, and I can't draw for shit. And as much as I'll complain about clipping, crazy editing etc. I still love seeing the final product, and even the process itself makes me warm and fuzzy on the inside (even if on the outside I'm smashing my computer to peices)
Other than that, I think of it as practice (in case I can ever get a job doing this shit) and an awsm way to procrastinate.

(oh, and it gives me an excuse to go to cons without having to dress up, or something )
