well if people enjoy a crappy amv i would say that an editorer has some kind of talant.... but at the same time a person can work hard to improve the quality of that amv... which requires hard work....

I'm going to say Ravenpuff... both O.o it takes a bit of both to impress me...

there are some people i see with loads of talant/possibility and i wanna help them improve their quality.... but unfortunately alot of these people seem to fall out of the amv loop or just kinda dissapear on me :(

AbsoluteDestiny made some of his stuff in an amazingly short amount of time. He says he made Arima Shinjikun in about a week and a half... same with I Wish I Was a Lesbian. I guess he's just plain talented... most vids of that quality need months of work.

But I think there might be something important other than talent and effort: experience.

I know it's been getting easier and easier for me to get my vids to look the way I want them to, and I think that's just because I've been doing this for a while now and I know what works and what doesn't. So I think I'm now able to make a better video faster than a couple years ago.

Maybe we need an AMV sorting hat? :P

I'd have to say that the more you work at something, the more talent you'll build up. Granted, some may have an easier time coming into editing because they understand what's in the guides better and so on..but overall it's how much effort you put into a video that really shows, talent or not.

Both. To make one more important than the other is ridiculous. They're both needed in different quantities at different times.

Talent and hard work mean nothing. It's all about on the programs you use; being able to bust out colored lens flares in two clicks is cruise control for fucking awesome.

Hard work is a big part of it, but you can't deny that certain people have a bit of innate tallent. How else can you explain people that spend hundreds of hours on a project that ends up looking like crap?

It depends on the personality. That is, if you see it from my point of view.

In my favorites there are a lot of AMVs people on this forum might often consider "crappy" due to either its lack of action synch or its lack of effects and so on. We all watch AMVs based on personal taste, you don't like AMVs that are made of gore if you're a nice guy. You don't like lovely cuddly AMVs with floating hearts in them if you're the Metallica type of guy. No matter how GOOD they are made, none of us can deny that.

So, let's say someone has a personality that isn't centered on internet a lot. If someone just "trys it out" and wants to see what he can do without much effort since he doesn't want to achieve much attention with his work anyways (since he/she got his/her real friends that are more important and other hobbies to do). Now let's say that person loses all her/his friends and all of those hobbies, and wants to go back to doing AMVs now, you'd think it'd change something? I say no. Why? Because of the already developed personality. If you're the type to go play sports your whole life you can't become a genius on the internet within a year. Its just not possible, characters need to adjust to new circumstances.

Then we have the different tastes in editing styles - simple and extraordinary. That also depends on your personality only, you choose your style and your way of doing AMVs through your personality. A girl that was abused in her childhood won't make the same kind of videos a yale student would. That's a fact.

And now let's get to the point. Once you've chosen the path of an AMV Creator, you'll get good with time no matter what you do. Only those that haven't chosen their path yet are doing all those crappy videos we get to see each day, they don't quite fit yet in the definition of a good AMV creator, and that's because they don't want to abandon the part of their personality that tells them to center around other stuff. At the time you give a part of your personality to AMV creating you get good, and meanwhile you'll automatically choose your editing style. Only based on your own tastes.

Talent and hard work are both neccessary on becoming a really good AMV creator, but it depends on everyone's very own point of view if oneself is already a good AMV creator or not. What I'm trying to say is that first of all it needs a decision and a strong will to get into this, and then Talent and hard work get to you by time the more you feel the need to get it. No matter if you've been a good creator (in your own opinion) from the very start by getting help from others or if it takes up to 3 years or more to get there. It all depends on will power. And that sounds like something from a star wars movie.

I think key points here are what both Otohiko and Silvermoon already mentioned. You have to key in Experience, and Artistic taste. Someone who is naturally good art art and has a good imagination will be able to come up with unique and artistic original ideas to make into excellent AMVs. However that tallent is wasted if you lack the skill and experience to put that vision into an AMV.

You realy need both to come up with something truly great. Anyone with hard work can create a copy of someone elses work, but it takes vission and creativity to come up with something unique and inovative. Likewise if you have that creativity and vision, you still need the knowledge and experience, and if not, hard work to learn and gain that knowledge and experience to effectively transfer that vision accurately into your work.

I think there's also a great deal of luck involved too.
E.G Iron Chef's; sometimes clips just fall into place.

Starting off, with a bit of luck you can look talented
when you work hard you're more likely to require luck - or work around it.
So by putting in more hard-work...

So if you don't get the luck, you basically have to make it yourself (hence; hard-work)

Maybe to some degree talent is just luck?
