The effects that's included in WMM aren't too bad, though I have to question why a lot of the transitions are even included (we not only get a star wipe, but SIX simultaneous star wipes). I mean, what's the point of these hideous tacky transitions?!! :x

SOCCER MOMS editing their kids SOCCER footage ..... it wasn't designed for people like us ..... lmao

FX do not make a good amv...

Coming from me, that means something...
"Strength lies in action. Let the weak react to me..." - Kamahl, Pit Fighter from Magic: the Gathering
"That is a mistake many of my enemies make. They think before they act. I act before I think!" - Vortigern from Merlin ('98)
"I AM REBORN!" - Dark Schneider Bastard!! OAV

True, but they are pretty to look at :D

I have to agree with what Infinity and Judge said though, WMM is really meant for home movies, maybe with some background music. It's really not meant for anything more technical than that. Some of the effects and transitions are alright (The dissolve doesn't look as nice as one might think though), but most are going to look bad in an AMV. Add that there's no way to alter the parametres, like making a fade go faster or slower (or, if you can, I haven't found it yet) and trying to use them tastefully quickly turns into a bashed-in monitor sitting in the alley under your window. It's a good starting point for making AMVs though, assuming you can get it to cooperate. I can't wait to upgrade.

WMM is a good place to start.
But once you thin you've started.
Move away, and never come back.

The effects are generally "shoddy"

It is meant for home-movies. CHEAP home-movies.
And shouldn't be really used for making AMVs at all.
However, alternatives are expensive and will take some time to learn.

It is possible to make some decent stuff with WMM, its just going to take you a lot of work... But in the long-run you may as well have spent this time learning how to use premiere.

Hope that helps.
*one day something with some effort will reside here*

Some of them come with the hypnosis affect, though, I see a lot of them that makes my finger twitch on the delete key, I don't really care for that affect in a video.

As far as transitions and effects go, I don't really see the need for footage transitions, maybe if your trying to create a feeling in the video but beyond that why interrupt your footage with 6 star wipes when a simple cut would lead better into what your trying to portray. Effects should be the ones you don't see.

well, I've found that it really depends on the type of vid you want to make, usually fun upbeat vids have more effects where as the slow romance ones tend to not, though there are exceptions both ways. I find that it simply depends on the vid you want to make, if you think effects will improve it then by all means use them.
