Very true, but, while amvs using downloaded footage is highly frowned upon, it's very hard to catch. So it can still be done. And while you can't talk about it in forum since it goes against the integrity the site tries to keep, there's no rules applying to private messages or emails. You want to ask the person for there footage, do it in a pm. This message will self distruct in five minutes.

this dvd burner is on the very cheap end, at $30 almost anyone should be able to get it (may require some saving up depending on your situation...way back when (mid 90's) I remember my allowence was $2 a week. ended up buying the original GameBoy with my own money. If you want something, plan out a way to get it [legally mind you])
about the same price as a new release dvd, and if your computer doesn't have any more IDE slots, you can just swap out a cd drive (assuming you have one to swap out). A relatively easy procedure
the only parts of this hooby that have a cost is the computer, the dvd drive, the cds and the anime (arguably the power too...but you get the idea) every other tool is free (or freeware) or included with the computer.
You will gain more repect for using dvd footage (as opposed to fansubs) and the image quality will be many times better. As mentioned before, the site tries to keep as legal as possible (since amvs do technically break copyright laws...and we've already had enough legal issues).
Please try to understand that many people who make money off of the dvds are making a living doing it, and downloading footage hurts them (less money).
*fansubs are tolerated atm because the fanbase isn't large enough...and downloading footage can get you in the same trouble as downloading music. However, anime that are not sold in your country are only avaliable through fansubs, or importing the R2 dvds (which is out of most people's budgets) so fansubs are almost ok...almost [imo]. Don't you just love these fine lines?
