Hmm...

Though it's vastly overused, End of Evangelion does have the air of horror in it. I'd also suggest the last few episodes of Chrono Crusade.

Some I know of,

Berserk: Mostly in the last episodes

Kakurenbo: Short but good cgi anime

Petshop of Horrors: a few good stories in this one not much gore or violence

Memories: Magnetic Rose is a particularly good sci-fi horror anime

Malice@Doll: a very strange horror cgi anime, I used it for an amv

Hellsing: plenty of good parts for violence and gore

Wcked City and Sin, the Movie: not great stuff but would have parts you could use.
Where did you say I'm going?.... And what am I doing in a handbasket?

thanks for all the suggestions. Most of those look very intriguing and i'll look into getting them.

Some of the ones such as berserk, hellsing and eva I am inclined to avoid, since they are fairly commonly used, and in the case of berserk it's quite old so the animation would be a step down from other parts of the project.

I second that.

the series blood+, has some awsome scenes, the anime itself isn't to freaky but the scenes can be used to make something scary
