What kind of situation do you need to feel creative?

first of all, i need to have thought of a really good concept, have the songs and materials available and have plenty of time on my hands. If i dont have any of those i dont even think of editing.
Then, i have to motivate myself to get started as picking out the neccessary scenes can be really tiresome (going throug all the original 134 episodes of naruto for my last amv to get just the right scenes took up about half the time i actually put into making it i think heh). But usually once i start the actual process of editing i get into the zone and will stick at it for hours, until either food, friends or sleep manage to pull me away.
But i never make amvs when i dont feel like it as i know i'll end up doing a crappy job and editing is really fun for me so there's no point in doing it if im not in the mood.
as for where i get inspiration, it's 1 of 2 ways.
1. Ive heard a really good song (often used in a particularly good amv) and i want to make my own amv using it.
2. I have a really nice concept in my head and i happen to come across a song which fits it perfectly. (anime is usually secondary).

As far as inspiration goes, for me it usually begins with me just feeling like making an AMV - period. What anime? What song? What Concept (or lack thereof)? I figure that out later. Sometimes I just feel like being creative I guess.

There are also times when I just randomly assemble stuff in Premiere, screenshot the timeline and quit without saving.
That's for when I want to edit something but have zero patience to look for sources/rip DVDs/script/look for a specific One Piece episode/download RAWs/use live-action

And God spoke unto the Chicken, and He said: "Thou shalt crosseth the road", and the Chicken did cross the road, and there was much rejoicing.

Hmm, see that's something I'd never be able to do, just working randomly when I feel like making a video.. I always have to have something to work from, else I give up straight away and look for inspiration.MaximoffZero wrote:As far as inspiration goes, for me it usually begins with me just feeling like making an AMV - period. Now that I think about it, I guess it's not true what I said. I mean, it's true that sometimes I just feel like making an AMV, but the anime/song/concept I usually end up using is drawn from the huge backlog of AMV ideas I already had in my head.Taruto Chan wrote:Hmm, see that's something I'd never be able to do, just working randomly when I feel like making a video.. As far as where those ideas came from, I usually come up with them while I'm working. I have a pretty mindless job right now and I have plenty of room left in my brain to let my imagination roll.

Random things really. For instance some people telling me to die in the general anime forum led me to mock them via a rap infused reply. Its really hard to say, something generally just hits me and i have a sensation of realization then i know what to do. Usually i just put random on my mp3 list if i'm trying to find it.

I tend to think up ideas when listening to my music on the bus, any other time I won't remember them. Most work gets done out of boredom on Saturday morning when I can get the computer for 3 hours straight due to my sister's absence.
