You know, not everyone downloads these videos from the Org. If I get an AMV off my favorite file-sharing utility, or from a friend, and the filename gives no indication as to who did what, you bet I want to see a credit sequence.

Also, credit sequences are handy places to put short little humorous vid ideas that aren't long enough to be their own AMVs.

You also need something to do between the time you're done and the time you're ready to host the vid up here (like if you wait until after the con you premiered at to actually put the video up).

Thanks for the humorous responses! I just hate it when the credits dont blend well with the video, it takes away some of the impact for me

Total newb question... whats a watermark?

because if you don't, you have no right to complain about your video getting youtubed without giving you credit.

well originally it was so you could find it (you know, before local and on direct and indirect links)... but then it caught on and ppl soon decided it was to be polite. It's not polite, it's pretty pointless since we don't share on p2ps any more. I now integrate my little studio name into songs if I wanna do a little 'hey! look at me!' thing...

Both of those are right, it just depends on the person. I don't put credits in because I'm just lazy.

I used to use text credits. Just tiny little pics at the beginning and/or end of the video with my email and website - so people downloading it over winMX would be able to find more videos like it if they wanted. I put the relevant search info in the 'title' - anime, genre, amv, pairings, etc - so the little pic intro was the only place to slip my contact info. I also liked the way the thumbnails handled the video if it had a title page - it wasn't just a black box, it was a miniature of that title pic. I liked the way it looked.

After a while winMX didn't work for me, I had the local for distribution, so I stopped making title pics. The last two times I've added a title page were for videos I knew would get distributed more off the org than they did on the org. One of them ended up getting deleted here because of the artist - I hadn't predicted that, but I'm still glad I went ahead with a title page anyway. I wanted anyone who downloaded that video somewhere else to know who made it because it's all fanart and, hello, if you liked it you can find a whole bunch more fanart in the same style on my site.

I never used credit songs and the like. They take up space, add to the length of the video, and (often) ruin the mood with a song that has nothing to do with the video it's tagged onto. But that's just me. I still like the idea of being able to share a vid off the org and still have people know who made it and where to find the rest of his/her collection.

I still get people popping up on the org after getting one of my old 'title-page' vids off stuff like BearShare. I've never heard of the program, but I guess it's the same as winMX was. Not everyone who likes amvs knows about the org. o.O

If you put credits : your video gets passed around, and sometimes they will pretend your username if their 'username on another site'

if you don't put credits : your video gets passed around, and they will pretend they made it

Except for the fact that I've had a video taken, and they completely edited out the credits.

Either way, if people are retarded enough to steal videos, they're probably retarded enough to not care if there are credits on it or not.

Everyone's pretty much said everything I wanted to say.

I actually get kind of sad when someone doesn't put credits at the end of their own videos. Like when everyone and their mother claimed they made Maboroshi's DBGT Hero of the day video. :?
