Your opinions on what makes a good video, and what makes a bad one. Some say we need a leader to once again bring about a revolution of amvs and to set a standard unsurpassed by all, raising the bar and lowering the population of the community as many quit with sobs and screams over "How can I beat that??". There's some support for the notion that the first amv you see will define your tastes for what makes a good amv. As time moves on, your tastes might start to evolve. As you watch more amvs, one might start to wonder, as many have before, what makes a definitive video.
Over here we have speculation on just what makes a great amv, not just good, but great. And how do we know it's great? Because, it has a 4 star rating. Along with that, there's a few ideas on what it takes to get a bad rating. The amount of time it took to develop this great amv is assumed to play a large role in what makes a good amv, but this is another discussion, because if you sit on an idea for a entire year and spend a day on it, does that mean it still took an entire year to make? What came first? The idea or the video? Intent can also play a large part in what makes a good, or perhaps even great, amv. Sometimes we want to have our e-penis jerked about, sometimes we just want:
Of course, one of the real dividing lines here is whether your a conservative or liberal in your effects view. Some like them, some don't.
Part of the problem with great amvs going unnoticed is that they don't catch you in the announcement forums, and has lead to some discussion on what it takes to get noticed. It could be the fact that the good video's just get ignored because they don't use popular sources, which makes us question, what does it take to make an amv everybody will like? The dejected losers go all philosophical and start pondering the whole is there even a bad amv out there, or are they all good to somebody. One real turn off to people in getting your amv to good, or even great, status is being seld-depreciative. Of course, I'm sure this turns many people off in a variety of situations, so if your doing it with your videos, you probably just suck in general.
To give these good amvs often passed over because of some reason or other, a thread was created just for them, 1000 hits or less. By the same token, we have mediocore at best amvs being passed off as good ones. Another problem with reaching good, or even great, status with your amvs, is being self depreciating. No one finds it attractive when you say your videos suck, and if your doing it to those, you probably do in real life as well. You need to step up to the plate with your screen name and scream <beowulf>I am AMV editor, hear me (crash premiere)rawr. Of course, part of the problem is that everyone could just be too negative to look at the positive side of your video.
In short,
This isn't a bashing of the topic starter, merely a indirect way of saying, come up with something new to discuss, or present to us something in a different light to define a good. The analysis of individual concept. Don't tell us a general, Do it right, fucker. What makes it right, what nuance makes it a great video, not just a good video.

I Agree with everything you said but in my opinion you're missing one of the most important points.
The Mood, the Feelings and what you want to give trought your work.
Some editors (Like me) put a LOT of the work to give the right feelings to the clips they make, to give emotions to the "Storyline" (It doesn't matter if this storyline is the original's anime one or just a completely transformed one).
You know, IMO the most important thing is to leave the viewer breathless.
Did you ever see Death Note?
That's how a perfect AMV Should be.

I get all kinds of shit done when a deadline for a amv comes up. As long as it doesn't pertain to me editing.Infinity Squared wrote:Orwell... I'm impressed you took the time to do that

Thanks for the tips. This is very helpfull for me, since I am not that good at creating videos, but when you said, that you could not have battlescenes and calm music, I have to disagree(in some ways). You see, if it is made good, and the music is sad, and the fight the video show, is sad and does not have any good pupose( something like that.. hmm sorry Sailorred for using you as an example, but just look at the fight in that video- sasunaru listen to your heart - sad music, sad fight.. it just fits)... calm music and figthing scenes may give a great contrast, but your right, you have to be really carefull with these mixes. Thanks again

This question is asked over and over again. My answer is this.
No one has the right to suggest "what makes a good video".
I don't care if your the top 10. Not even the #10 or #1.
When you ask this you get 2 different kinds of people to answer this question.
Black and white.
Black says "you need timing sync". White says "No it's not all about that! it's about this!..."
Right after u listened to the two, your confused as Ann Hesh and then ur asking urself that question again!
I hate how people get poetic too when they give u the answer at these questions JUST OVER AMVS!(it's not fucking Caligraphy.)
Way I found the answer to same question.
Answer: I just watched other peoples videos and thought of what they used like (mood and ect.) and decided to channel this for myself.
