BTW, that video won first place at a Hungarian con last weekend. *congrats again Det : ) *
Who said they havn't seen kaxi's videos? He took second in that con (that's right, SES owned that con). Go watch : /
As for the video, considering this was her first video with a program she had never touched before, i'd say she did a really good job of getting to know all it's features and finding creative ways execute them. True, it is a bit of a stereotypical kaleido star amv, but there's not really much else you can do with it. But yes, the credits needed work. I can agree on that, though it was pretty funny.
How comes nobody hears of the studio? We need to get in gear i guess.
*kicks Shogun, psysics and chouji2* Edit dammit lol

I disagree. If you get creative enough, you can make any anime into anything you want. This video is a great example of taking an anime completely out of context and still making a coherent, solid storyline. Who was it that said, "How much thought does it take to take an anime like Ah! My Goddess and put it to a song about angels?" Doing different things with anime whose AMVs all begin to meld together (as is the case with Kaleido Star AMVs) is what I personally like to see most when I download videos.guy07 wrote:True, it is a bit of a stereotypical kaleido star amv, but there's not really much else you can do with it.
And to Greg:
Well, as none of us in the chat could make sense of the storyline in the video (and there were, what, like seven or eight of us?), that shows that there's obviously some problem there. Maybe it's necessary to have seen Kaleido Star first, like Szwagier said, but I think that's the testing point - if those who haven't seen the anime can't make full sense of a video's supposed story, then the editor has failed in their storytelling.

Yes, but 1) it does so quite loosely; 2) is that something really amazing concept-wise?
But hey, it's an execution-oriented video, and the execution delivers.

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

I got that part, but that only covers like half the video. The second half just seemed random to me. I am not saying this really hurt the video, at all. As a dance/upbeat action video, the editing was very solid and the story didn't need to be in the foreground. A story would have been nice, but I don't think that having it be the focus of the video was necessary, and as such I still greatly enjoy this video.Bauzi wrote:I don´t think so.
Girl comes to town
joins circus
trys hard
gets awesome
That´s what I understand and that´s enough story for me.

I'm not sure if you really need to go AU to prove the point though. jasper-isis's Frost & Flames is a good example of a non-dance KS video (which premiered around the same time as Det-chan's).CrackTheSky wrote:If you get creative enough, you can make any anime into anything you want.
I don't think creativity is so important that if you hear a song and see an anime and go "that fits so well together!" you should automatically think "crappy video". As this week's video showed; solid editing and pacing can make you pull off your concept, it's not an automatic win. I think we only view it as a negative because so many people think it is.
Series context is a hard thing to argue. I've noticed the trend in AMVs is to discourage requiring series context, and the ultimate result is the 'various' videos. If you look at other video communities, like vidding (doing videos to live action NA TV), it is very rare to find well done videos there which do not require series context.CrackTheSky wrote:Well, as none of us in the chat could make sense of the storyline in the video...that shows that there's obviously some problem there.
Unfortunately most of us have not seen Kaleido Star, only G_Q I think had, and he did mention story elements in the video, although not strong (remember, it's a dance video!) I think it's unusual for a video in a dance/fun/comedy category to require context, which may be where you're coming from CrackTheSky, but if this was sentimental/drama/character profile/romance I'm thinking people would understand a lot more. Plus there are so many anime that people make videos to, it's hard to be interested in amv's and not see videos for anime's you've never seen. If AMV Announcements is any indication using an anime nobody has seen (or a song nobody has heard/used) seems almost a positive thing in this community.

Here is what, after a few viewings, I understood the storyline of the second half of the video to be : The love interest of the girl enters, and the two rivals fight for his attention. Then, a grand competition takes place. We then get a segment I LOVE, which is the presentation of the different contestants abilities and shows, set to the horn-heavy bridge. Main girl is intimidated at first, but overcomes her fear and breaks out. Love interest is blown away, happy end.
The story itself is nothing amazing, but the storytelling; the presentation, style and litlle details are things I appreciate, as a filmmaker, I guess. And no, I haven't seen the anime

Frost & Flames isn't a non-dance video. It's a drama dance. I mean, jasper even said she made it because she wanted to do a dramatic DANCE video.
