I have friends all the time show me AMVs off there PC that they think are great and I laugh and say they are crap. So ya its all a matter of opinion. People think that Advent Children and naruto are still good sources to make amvs to and I am to the point to where if I see them as a source I know its gonna be crap but people love them and watch them and use them.

naruto and advent children are good sources, its just the masses of people who make videos with them aren't really good editors :/

Good and bad is subjective on so many levels. I mean, I for one, look at age. I criticise much more harshly the newer a video is. Also, there is the issue that there are "good" videos I don't like, but I recognize as technically poficient, and "bad" videos I recognize as lacking, but still love. Again, much of this has to do with age, but not always. Sometimes videos just work for me, despite their flaws. Other times, flawlessness is cold and seems to accomplish nothing. So for me, it's less about some sort of standardised concept of "good" or "bad" and more a personal concept of "enjoyable" or "boring."

you don't have to know anything to be a critic, only what you like or don't like :)

although it's helpful to keep you from being labled a troll if you can tell somebody why you don't like their stuff.

this exactly what was going to say except Mine was going to be slightly reversed.

my roommate makes bad vids all the time but I tell her why they are bad, like the video quality in bad or good, to the song dose not fit the source at all. Basically I tell my friends and or anyone that shows me a vid as if it would be judged by say the VAT staff at AWA , there are several people on staff that have viewed thousands of vids and can pin point any tech issue to how fluid the vid was. Basically watch a vid and see if it was interesting to watch or if it was boring(like all the boring hentia and boring action vid we get every year lol).

Yeah, that's what I meant to say when I reread it, but this extremely ghey board only allows you to edit sometimes.

Meh. I belive that you don't have to be. I've liked AMVS with horrible quality and bad editing before, just due to some insane reason. I think from a technical standpoint (like Nio said) is required though. Maybe that's just me.
