you might try Kino's Journey, also. Kino meets some pretty depressing people.

Maybe it's not quite what you're looking for, but Paranoia Agent comes to mind. Actually anything made by Director Satoshi Kon would make this interesting.

This sounds like a good project, a welcome departure from the stereotypical fight-scenes-to-rock-music or DDR-mixes. Whichever anime you use it ought to make an impression. If you want to prove a point with this or raise your AMV's to a level of artistic expression, I say this is the one to go with.
