Without new software I think AMVs aren't really going anywhere in terms of development. The best I can think of is a lot of still images that imply action. . .but then again we alllready have that video don't we?

Unless people redefine the term "Amv" I can see a certain group go beyond Amv's in the sense that they will turn into motion graphics, original animation pieces. I also think that limiting people to mere anime will become a thing of the past. As it shall most likely only be used for fillers in order to get things hosted here. We have already seen a few examples that have gone beyond conventional "amv's" over the last 2 years and have seen the numbers increasing. I think that the "traditional" amv's will be replaced by more technical advanced pieces. Unless of course the youtube generation takes over this place. And we shall be forced to either bare with it or leave this place.

Ugh, this again. Look, if you want to find deeper meanings and great stories, go read a book or watch a film. If you want to move beyond AMVs, nobody's stopping you. Let the rest of us create our little fanvideos just for the fun of it.

That's the essence of it for me, right there. I make amv's of things *I* want to see, and if other people share and enjoy my vision, then that's the icing on the cake.

I think that's why I enjoy vids that might not be as technically "perfect" more than the overly-edited ones. I believe that making art should fun---it should be something you *want* to do, rather than *have* to do. And you can see that in videos like yours (which I love, btw)---the joy you had in making that amv totally shines through. Compare that to excessively beat-synched, flashy, epilepsy-inducing amv's that say nothing, show nothing (except the editing and timing skills of the creator) and which are, to me, empty and soulless. And there are times when both can come together---Nostromo's videos come to mind. A delight to watch and technically impeccable.

As far as a "direction" for amv's? I don't know if that's even a valid question. Art is personal to each individual person and expressed differently by each (even my opinions here are just that---my opinions). I'm sure there will be fads and styles that come and go, but I think the essence of amv-making---finding a combination of anime and song that moves you enough to create it in tangible form---will always remain unchanged.

Honestly, does a hobby really have to evolve all the time?

AMVs are what you make them out to be so long as they are fun to make... That alone should be the driving force of where they go...

Uh... Yes. Obviously. I mean, AMVS are all about the evolution. I've tried creationism for years, and I'm telling you, those amvs JUST DO NOT make themselves. I pray and I pray, I scream and yell at the adobe gods, yet my pleas fall on deaf hardware and blissfully ignorant software. When I do battle with the frame hordes, sometimes between alliances of entirely different animes, Windows does not come to help. Even my allies are two faced, betraying me with a failure to respond to my requests. Sometimes even the most basic exchanges between us, open this file, fail. Of course, they just plead it's in their 'source code' and we remain at a stance of uneasy peace. Who knows when they join the hordes of Asia. And even GETTING to wage war on the hordes is difficult at times with all the grey tape down the foggy brick road you have to follow. They don't accept just any file, no, they must be homogenous, so you have to diplomatically word your requests so that you can pass off aliens as a acceptable format. Really, the world would be better off with no amvs, but those warmongering song hawks are always eager to test and best the Asiatic hordes.

What real time strategy game?

I think that as DVDs get easier and easier to rip, AMVs will slowly find themselves transforming into LAMVs. It's practically here already, but soon the popularity of LAMVs will be just as great as AMVs.

I also think we should allow LAMVs in the Announcements forum. :\
