Ouch, thats pretty sad and selfish for ppl to do if thats how it works. Hope I wasn't a victim of that. But from what I'm hearing from ppl, seems opinions are more heavily weighted than star score. Im guessing also that ppl look more into the opinions rather than star score huh?DooKi` wrote:I personnaly beleive that the star ratings dumb. Everyone I know who comes on the org just gives 5's for everything so that they can continue to download or 1s.

Please don't lose sleep over the thought that people think differently than you want them to. That's not a battle you can win.Shadowfox85 wrote:Reason I'm asking is because I made an amv "K.I.B. - Knights in Black", which I thought would get great reviews and scores.
Next time, you could try not to expect anything. Then you'll be pleasantly surprised.
And yes, star scores mean jack. They're grossly inflated for the most part. People more often download and watch videos that they think they're going to like - if they don't like your style, your anime choice, your song choice, or your shoes, they aren't going to get it in the first place. So some of the potential negative scores self-select out.
The main point is, if you're only in this to get high scores, knock yourself out. But please, for the love of all that's good and holy, don't whine about it. This board can't change it.

Agreed. I have nothing more to add to this.SarahtheBoring wrote:The main point is, if you're only in this to get high scores, knock yourself out. But please, for the love of all that's good and holy, don't whine about it. This board can't change it.

i wouldn't use the star rating as an indicator for how good your vid is conceptually, technically and all that mumbo jumbo - i see it more as a an amv's "appeal factor". Something that shows how the audience reacted to the vid or maybe simply a ratio between who liked it and who didn't.
i may rarely look at the weekly star ratings to see if theres a vid there i might want to watch. I think thats the only time i consider someone elses star score. but even so i wont view it just because of that. I would usually also only look at that the first two pages so you have to be getting upwards of 4.10 averages - as mentioned before its usually recommendations that get me to view vids

Re: Question about personal view of Star Averages
Thanks for the tip, guess I shouldn't put high hopes on it. Sorry to anyone else about the complaint thing, the main point i just wanted to get across on was where ppl draw the line on bad, ok, and good star scale wise in their opinion. And its not really something that im losing sleep on, it was just a thought I had. I do agree that there are ppl who wont like the choice I made. Thanks again for the tipSarahtheBoring wrote:Please don't lose sleep over the thought that people think differently than you want them to. I usually expect all my amvs to phail XD
though seriously star scale doest really phase me (unless it amuses me)... the number of downloads vs time its been out tells me more about weather or not people like my video...
thing is most of the videos on the org get around by word of mouth, recs and whatnot, so if a video is getting downloaded a lot then someone out there is pimping my video which means either someone out there is a sadist and likes to torture people or they actually like it enough to share it with other people.
