honestly, if I see subtitles, I will stop the video and delete it. If the creator didn't even take the time to crop them out, then I can't see them taking the time to actually put together a good video.
It's a sign that they don't care about the presentation of their video, and I don't want anything to do with that. If that makes me 'elitist', because I think creators should take at least a little care in how their videos looks, then bring it on. *shrugs*

I havn't really paid attention to this site in about a year but if I remember correctly....
Things to avoid when making a video for a-m-v.org:
-Leaving in subtitles
-Encoding in WMV
-Using mix-matched aspect ratios
-Using any song by Linkin Park
-Using Dragon Ball Z as a source
-Using Naruto as a source **
-Using the phrase "My first video" anywhere in the thread title
-Using bad grammar in the title or description of the video
-Having a credits section longer than 25 seconds
-Having a studio logo section longer than 12 seconds
-Using any song by Soulja Boy (If that's not a rule than it SHOULD be)
** = this rule can be bypassed with enough filters/digital effects in the AMV
Also mind you, these are mostly only rules for this site (not that there's anything wrong with that). If you are unable to comply with these requirements you should think about putting your video elsewhere like YouTub or Veoh or something.

They're not really rules as such, more of just "if you do this, and I know you're going to do this, I will fucking rape you"Aria Mournesong wrote:I havn't really paid attention to this site in about a year but if I remember correctly....

no but their producers/label can "ban" soulja boy...
and all of those so called "rules" for the org are ridiculous... you CAN do all of those things, and for a few of them people will point them out as "flaws" (incorrect aspect ratios) or as annoying (long intros.. we want to see the video, not how "awsum u r")...
the one about posting "my first video" in your thread, that's not even a good suggestion let alone a rule, in fact people might be nicer to you if you do, as long as you have listed your video on the org with proper download links don't try to link us to the toob or another streaming site.

and I've heard tales of newbs that actually prefer the subs in their videos, but it could be them trying to make up for the lack of knowledge that you CAN get rid of them.
and changing aspect ratios on the same source usually indicates a frankenvid... don't use other people's vids as a source for your own, that's usually a big no-no as it's been known to cause drama.

Of course you "can" do any of them, you "can" do anything you want. But Aria's list is pretty accurate for a list of spoken or unspoken "no-no's" that get looked down upon. On my first bunch of videos I'd commited quite a few of them, and every time I'd get an opinion it was like a broken record, I'd hear the same thing over and over again. True, some people were unaffected, but the majority all had the same opinion.JaddziaDax wrote:and all of those so called "rules" for the org are ridiculous... you CAN do all of those things, and for a few of them people will point them out as "flaws" (incorrect aspect ratios) or as annoying (long intros.. we want to see the video, not how "awsum u r")...
Certainly you are not forced to follow these "rules", but they give your video a better chance of being taken seriously. Because, let's face it, the org can be very "elitist" in this matter.
And I somewhat agree with the "my first video" one. If I see that, it immediately makes me wary of the video. A lot of creators make awesome first videos but there are also many that don't. This doesn't mean that you shouldn't put that label on it, just that you should beware of what you're saying by doing it. It also affects me the same when someone says "I was bored so I made this". Same concept, plenty of seriously awesome videos were born of someone's boredom, but so were many many crappy videos.
