AMV to Watch Anime

I have never seen anime on tv and said "hey I gotta watch that". Probably has to do with how most anime on north American tv has been overly sanitized not to mention it's usually also 2 years late.
I only buy anime on dvd if it truly rocked, and I only encounter anime from fan subs and amvs.
So basically, if the industry ever "officially" gets rid of my ability to enjoy downloading fan subs and watching amvs, it will deserve the lost sales it creates in the process.
Not that it will stop me downloading of course.
I certainly don't browse retail for my anime.

Anime, one of the few things about the internet that doesn't make me hate the internet.

Bout 80% of the anime I watch comes from AMVs that I've seen and thought "That looks really cool."
15% comes from friend recommendations which usually brings me to download a video or two with the anime to check it out first, and then actually going on to watch the series.
And then because I have no will of my own 5% is me actually discovering a series for myself and watching it.

There were a few influential buys for me based on videos I had seen:
- JudgeHolden's "Daughter of the Gun" got me hooked on Kino no Tabi. Bought the box set from the ADV Films table at the next convention I went to. Definitely worth watching (both the video and the series )
- Ashyukun's "Pretty Fly (for a Mega-Playboy)" was my first look at DNA^2. I had heard of it before that, but never did see it before -- not even in a video until then. Found the box set cheap, and thought it was a interesting premise that ultimately doesn't really seem to work in the end. It's still worth a look -- if you can find it anymore -_-;

x2 Its mostly been AMVs that have brought me to buy new anime. (Azumanga Daioh, Lucky Star, Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Death Note, Gankutsuou, etc) My next line is recommendations, then just what looks interesting. To tell the truth, I was really only minimally into anime until I started making/watching AMVs. That's when it all clicked with me. Now I'm hooked. YAY!!! AMVs!!! *^_^*Radical_Yue wrote:Bout 80% of the anime I watch comes from AMVs that I've seen and thought "That looks really cool."

Well I bought Origins and Karas because I them in a few AMV and became interested. Karas was good, haven't watched Origins yet, although someone said it wasn't that great but meh, what does he know.
And because of all the Haruhi and Lucky Star footage I've seen in AMVs, i'm not sure if I want to pick them up because all I EVER see is them dancing. I once saw someone's Haruhi beta that made me go, "are you telling me this show actually has non-dancing scenes?!" So eventually I feel I will cave and get them along with Clannad and Higurashi.

Every anime with the exception of NGE and Karas was purchased due in part to:
1) Seeing an Amazing AMV with it
2) Getting it reccomended
Seriously, I went out and rented the first few discs of School Rumble from a suggestion thread the other day. Definitly didn't regret it. :O
Oh, and I hate the fact that my area has such a limited quantity of anime (we STILL don't have Haruhi Suzumiya, Lucky Star OR Tsubasa). But of course we have Bleach and Death Note up the bum. :\
