Wow...Awesome!!!

Now...I just need to figure out whats the best options...for me....

Is DVD ripping really the best way to go?
Yes. At least for the present moment, it would be a most reliable and ethical method of work. There's certainly exceptions and alternatives, but I'd really recommend it.

How about ripping footage...from a video game? How would I go about doing that?

Depends on the console. I'd start here: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/phpBB/v ... hp?t=51333

If not, then ask on the ripping forum. Plenty of people do that, I'm sure!

I'd say slap some footage on the timeline - that usually helps me get started <3

there's still a lot of crappy amvs now. really technology hasn't changed much in amvs since 2002 other than h264 encoding.

amv technology is like the current economy. the average person is more well off than in the past, but the gap between rich and poor has gotten wider, with the rich getting richer. people who make good amvs already can make evern better ones with the new technology, but people who make crappy ones will still make crappy ones no matter how good the technology is.

but the uber amvs you are seeing are quite few and far in between, it's still possible to make good amvs with very basic editing. i suggest this as an example

aside from a little lip sync and some masking in the last few seconds there are pretty much zero effects in this amv. it's good because it has great sync, good quality (audio and video) and good scene choice. there are plenty of amvs out there with over the top effects that are lost and forgotten simply because while they have lots of flashy lights they just arnt appealing to people.

so if you enjoy editing then go for it, i suck at amv making and i still throw one together on occasion.

If you answered "yes", then make videos. Don't worry about what other people do or what other people think. Make videos for you.

x2, wonderful amv, and great example of how powerful C&F editing can be.

Amvs are literally becoming more disposable effects fests with little connection to the viewers other than flashy effects.

I urge you to try to bring the old feeling back.

Well thats good...because i am not very rich...lol
I feel that i have a very good out look on how a AMV should be...but seeing all these master "Effect" videos...got me kind of down because i thought the Old School kind of AMVs were dead....i was always just focused on giving a message in my AMV...with out changing the anime's direction...I hope that kind of taste of AMVs...is still liked...Thanks for the video!!! It has given me high hopes...that one person's efforts can still make a awesome AMV :)
