Re: Recruiting from The Tube
What others have said. Neither WS-FTP LE nor Mozilla Firefox's browser FTP would connect for me when I tried uploading my videos in October so I switched to Internet Explorer's browser FTP and,lo and behold, it worked. Go figure.

I always FTP from the MS-DOS prompt, just cause I've always associated FTPing with command line interfaces, yes I'm old enough to remember the days before nice GUI interfaces for FTP.
It's never failed me (until 2 weeks ago, when I tried to upload a vid just a couple of hours after the server filled up).

NcFTP is nice for that, since unlike the built in command, it gives you progress information.purplepolecat wrote:I always FTP from the MS-DOS prompt, just cause I've always associated FTPing with command line interfaces, yes I'm old enough to remember the days before nice GUI interfaces for FTP.

I've been using CuteFTP since I started, I've never had problems, but then again the program is pretty easy to figure out.

If that information gets out i'd expect a huge spike in uploads soon after. There are a lot of functional computer-illiterate out there and this small, easily overcome hurdle was probably holding them back from flooding the servers.jasper-isis wrote:In the future, we might look into simplying the upload system so that it has an http interface.

Anyyone who manages to read AMV Tech guide (and make a good vid by it - from the technical POV) will on 99% manage to get FTP working.

So let's actually discuss the topic of AMV creators migrating between here and YouTube. Is it a good or bad thing, and should we try to do anything about it?Nya-chan Production wrote:x2BasharOfTheAges wrote:If that information gets out i'd expect a huge spike in uploads soon after. The fact remains that we've experienced a very significant drop in videos added to the catalog right around the time YouTube came into prominence. We look down on the Youtube community’s supposedly lower standards for AMV creation, but don’t forget that we’re also potentially losing out on a lot of new talent. If we’re not, then the general quality of videos here should have increased. Has it?
Now that YouTube has rolled out widescreen and HD streaming support, videos there can have the potential to look pretty damn good. Think this will affect anything?

I've been using filezilla for awhile, easy program, works great...shareware, so it's free.
