Any AMV that's over 10 seconds long is just wasting the audiences time. A really good editor can make their point in under 2 seconds.

Squeezing 4 short videos into one doesn't count as a long video.

Yeah, i don't really care about the length of the video as long as its interested and has stuff that keeps me entertained throughout .
Some of my favorite videos on this site are of long length and i sometimes edit long videos myself.

Is two minutes really considered to be short?

Anything under 5 minutes is short.

For some types of videos, short can be an asset. Certain comedy/joke videos are better short rather than trying to stretch the joke for too long. And for some concept videos, their entertainment factor decreases once the novelty wears off. If lack of usable footage is a limiting factor, then invariably a short video is the only thing possible barring creatively repeating footage or losing the focus of your video.

Done well though, long videos can seem shorter. A recent example is Pwolf's . He actually took a 6 minute song and extended it to 7 1/2 minutes. Total time, including credits, clocks in at 8 min 30 sec. I barely noticed the time.

I think when you're editing a video, you have to genuinely believe that people will give it their complete and undivided attention. You have to KNOW that what your working on is worth people's attention for the entire duration, otherwise the piece suffers. Don't sabotage yourself by worrying about length or people's perception during the editing process. If, after the piece is complete, you feel that trims are necessary, cut it down.

That being said, its always hard for me to watch slow drama video that does the exact same thing for the 2nd chorus of the song. Same sound, same editing, same ideas = repetitive.

I enjoy making long videos because they will always be more memorable and enjoyable than short videos, just by definition. The concept can be bigger, and has time to stretch out. The highs are higher and the lows are lower. There is a much greater opportunity for tension/release if you have 5-7 minutes than there is for 2-3 minutes. Theres a reason that movies over 140 minutes dominate all the critic lists. All other things being equal, you can tell a better, richer story in 2.5 hours than you can in 90 minutes.
