I can't rip/collect fotoage without it looking like shit, so I don't like doing it.
But I love to edit. LOOOOOVE to edit. =)

Re: You want to edit, yet don't want to edit?
The thing that kills my motivation to do any of that isn't so much not enjoying any of those things by themselves, it's not enjoying them because my computer is 8 years old and it would probably be less painful to have my teeth pulled. Without Novocaine. With a pair of plyers.
Just kidding. But it is bad enough at times to make me dread it. Also, because for me to watch a lot of stuff on my computer, I've got to convert it into a form this thing can handle, and that sucks up a lot of time too.
My peak of editing - by numbers, not quality - was when I had a job I absolutely hated. I'm guessing the editing was a form of catharsis or something. Even if I might not hate any job I end up getting now, maybe it was because I was more pressed for time that I could focus better.

I've got three seperate projects where the DVD is ripped, AVS script made, audio is trimmed/normalized, and everything is ready to edit right down to having the project setup in Premiere. I just can't get off of my arse to actually EDIT the damned things...

Re: You want to edit, yet don't want to edit?
I hate editing. I like the process of coming up with ideas, and I love the feeling of these ideas coming to life. I really take pride and satisfaction whenever I finish a video and it pleases me (even if it pleases noone else). I know I may be reinventing the wheel, but I like the wheel. I don't like the process though - as my favourite musician would say:
Sadly (wait... sadly?), ideas and pipe dreams on one side, and satisfying results on the other, always make me come back whenever I work up enough motivation to get over my loathing of editing. And last but not least, the community and friends I have around AMVing keeps me firmly anchored in the hobby. And I should say, over time, I've started hating the technical aspects of it a bit less. I've become more comfortable and somewhat more creative with them.
That basically sums up my feelings for editing, and really most other technico-creative processes. I hate grappling with the mechanics of writing (even though that's what I do for a living). I hate grappling with the proportions in drawing. And probably more than those two things, I hate grappling with timelines, clips, filters, compression, and blahblahblahblah in editing. I just draw no satisfaction from cracking these kinds of annoying mechanical sideshows. I don't reach nerd nirvana when I solve a technical problem in editing. Not that I never reach it at all, but if I want to enjoy technological challenges, I play a flight simulator or something. Any technical or procedural challenge editing throws at me pales by comparison to that for me, in terms of personal enjoyment. Twiddling with clips is a bore, snore and chore and it's really not my thing.Robert Fripp wrote:At the beginning, you have a wheel.
At the end of the process, you have a wheel.
And in between is pain.

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

I had the same feeling working on my last project. I really put it off forever, then finished like 3/4 of it over 2 weekends. I know how u feel. School really messes with it too. I would just start it, and eventually you will be sucked in to it. It's like a school club, you feel like just going home, but when you get there you have fun.

Get a good night's rest, down a shitload of coffee the next morning, lock yourself in your room with the computer.
