Eh, I think holding him up to some sort of 'professionalism' is unreasonable (as a sociolinguist, I'd have a few things to say about the whole idea of 'professionalism' and editorial checkists ); but I think you guys are making enough fuss out of it for him to use the backlash in his own favour (i.e. for getting attention and 'scoring points').

And the attention could bite him in the ass if anyone decides to sue him. Heh.

Whether the audience considers him professional or not, law still applies.

shock sells. you can make money as a writer by make an audience happy or pissing them off. The latter usually makes more money

That said, with few exceptions, most bands don't seem to notice or care about AMVs, and the Japanese don't seem to care much either, so generally they're left alone. Sometimes they get caught up in the random fansub sweeps YouTube does every now and then, but that's about it. No, they're not legal, but nobody seems to care about them.

So while I question their legitimate creative merit, they're harmless.
