With all this talk about the tube, it STILL never ceases to amaze me that new people come here, sign up and *wow!* they get FREE hosting (with the option of donating), no limit on bandwidth or downloads, all these nifty perks that doki works his ass off to give us, opinions, help forums, guides that cover anything and everything that must have taken days and weeks out of the author's life just to help ungrateful newbs, and once again, MORE FREE HOSTING that keeps their quality and sync. And yet after all that, they STILL want to upload to the tube? The tube can delete their videos (if they ever get around to doing it) but they don't have to worry about their videos being deleted here (with a few exceptions to rules like graphic violence, nudity, and select bands *cough seether cough*). I'll never understand it.

But they want to watch their vids and get their all 5 ass-kissing for their fansubbed crap NOW, damnit! And besides, it's WAY too difficult to upload and download here.kikai_saigono wrote:With all this talk about the tube, it STILL never ceases to amaze me that new people come here, sign up and *wow!* they get FREE hosting (with the option of donating), no limit on bandwidth or downloads, all these nifty perks that doki works his ass off to give us, opinions, help forums, guides that cover anything and everything that must have taken days and weeks out of the author's life just to help ungrateful newbs, and once again, MORE FREE HOSTING that keeps their quality and sync. well doki or who ever is gonna have to think up of a easier solution for the "tube teens" on how to upload a video. But Honestly do you really want the arrogance of what youtube has to offer. I think the picture that dokool posted pretty much explains for it self.
Like I said, on youtube their "Titans: God's among men" when they use the newest mtv song using a anime with a cartoon network logo on it and get 5/5 out of it without another good look at the video..

I've seen worse. I've seen amvs with Naruto's episodes, subbed and all, not editing, just a chunk of the ep thrown in there to sytem of a down's 'chop suey', and quality of both audio and video were terrible. And I told them as much as I could about it in the little space the tube leaves me room to write, and people who didn't even own the video were jumping down my throats for 'flaming' their 'favorite' amv.Yokou Seishirou wrote:

But it's not our job to decide who can upload their amvs here or not. The idea behind the org was not to host only the greatest amvs ever made, but to catalog every amv ever made as well. As much as some people's amvs may.....suck, if they wish to upload it here, then they should. At least here people won't kiss their ass and they'd get a good idea of what a well edited amv is like, and push themselves to be greater editors.

and they usually dont fall under the same category that everyone is putting them in :/
In all seriousness, the reason we stereotype as a species is 2-fold.
1. A statistically large percent generalities are true.
2. Writing filled with qualifiers (that make you less "wrong" on a factual level) is unclear, difficult to read, and takes too much effort for most people to type out.

Okay, I admit I use the toob. I admit I started at the toob, even.
My reasons for using it are my own. I'm not doing it to gain popularity -- although having more people see my work is nice. My main purpose there is to make the work easily available to another community that I belong to, and to get some feedback. In fact, if anyone were to look at my account there, they'd see more than one AMV that I had revised and uploaded twice. When I get that AMV to the point that I'm satisfied with it, THEN I upload it here (of course 'satisfied' is a subjective term... none of my AMVs are perfect... they were just the best I could do with the skills I had at the time).
There are also those who just don't want to bother downloading from here (why is beyond me, but then I've never asked).
Of course, I get better crits here, and because of that, I've managed to improve my skills.
I don't hate the toob, but I am aware of the limitations of the site. I won't deny, either, the arguments of the crap that gets thrown up there under the guise of 'amv'. However, the toob isn't the ONLY place that has crap. I've downloaded a few from here that were subbed, or had the divx logo, or was just general bad quality.
Hell, some of MY stuff... Okay MOST of my stuff... is crap.
But we all have to start somewhere, and not everyone gets to have a formal education on editing theory.
*shrugs* It's like fanfic... sometimes you have to sift through a whole pile of fertilizer to find the diamonds.
Yeah, I mixed that metaphor.
Anyhow, my point (amazingly enough, there was one), not -all- toobers are THAT bad. And while I agree that the people just posting the toob link and nothing more do deserve to get slapped down, there are others who post toob links, and are just unaware... or excited that they'd made something they're proud of (I know I was... but I also admit I read through the site first... except for my stupidity with FTP *cough*).
Obvious spammers deserve punishment. Newbies without a clue just need pointed in the right direction. I like the updated alert that someone copied and posted in this thread earlier. Succinct, and easily understandable.
Of course, this is just my opinion. With that and about $1.00, you can get a cup of weak coffee at IHOP.
