In 5 years. I'd say amv's would have overdone themselves. There will be nothing that hasn't been done. Nothing creative or absolutely original will be released. Eventually after that the amv editors of this generation will slowly disappear, quiting or so.
The bar will be set too high for anyone to get over and bring something new and totally fresh into the "amv world".

That is what I think.

In 5 years, AMV's will still be flawless as always even though it depends on the evolution of anime. There will still be editing, but with more advanced tools and digital effects. There will still be amv editors, but added with new members over the next year and so forth. Anime will still be fantastic no matter what new ones come out. Don't know for sure, but this is what I think.

You underestimate the hordes of new anime that are spat out every quarter(!!!) of the year.
Also, there are the wide boundaries (as I have already mentioned) of manga and (especially) visual novels. Almost no-one uses them in local communiy, or I haven't seen something good from that field yet.In the last few months, lots of translations came out, and I know there are many others ahead of us, which will provide sources for some time as well.

Hell, I have never heard of such wide-spread hobby dying for a lack of sources or interest, maybe changing to something else ("collecting bullets" surely became less popular after the end of WW2 in here), but even though, I doubt it'd happen in such short time frame.

(also, I think there were people thinking like this 5 years ago... stop being negative ;x

Just saying what I think. And also, when I say originality or creativity. then it is more than what anime and music you use.
But I don't know, I might be wrong. But that is I feel it is heading right now. Wasn't saying the whole hobby dying, but this generation of editors of it might do. That is what I meant with that.

But on the other hand, we have members who have been editing since 2000 and earlier who still haven't really quit.

But I unno, Was just speaking my mind.

Yeah, godix, ZetZu, kewp, ZephyrStar, Katie, Zarx, etc... Of course the generations have to switch at some point, but I think that AMV editing is a thing you can do for a long time ^^

Exactamundo!

AMV editing will continue generation to generation. Don't know when it'll stop, but I do know many people will want to continue. If you like doing the things you do, keep going as long as you want.

As a new member who joined in 2008, I may have just started, but I'll continue over the years. I won't stop unless I say so. In the meantime, I'm enjoying every second of watching AMVs, communicating, etc...
