Ill ask Ed what he thinks, but so long as it trully is VERY high quality I dont think it should be a problem.trythil wrote:Both deinterlacing and IVTC produce progressive output. The difference is how they do it.NicholasDWolfwood wrote:Yeah yeah yeah, I know.
If I wasn't so pressed for space, I'd just IVTC and change framerate to 24fps in Windows, but since IVTC is basically the same as de-interlace (Well, except IVTC recovers the progressive frames and de-interlace doesn't, )
Random question to Ashton, RadicalEd0: Can you guys accept MPEG-2? I was messing around with libmpeg3, and it turns out that it produces some Very Nice output with filesizes that Aren't That Big.

well the thing about projects like this is the source formats have to be a reasonable upload size, so the quality is somewhat limited. XviD at quant 2 and 1 are probable the least limited as far as little lossiness goes for a reasonable size. I'd tell you to just encode to a DVD compliant stream since the main format is going to be DVD but then the conversion to an internet distribution format would be crappier looking :\ if it isnt too much trouble I'd say better to just go with a quant 1 or 2 XviD encodetrythil wrote: Random question to Ashton, RadicalEd0: Can you guys accept MPEG-2? I'll have to check our options as far as this goes. For all I know it might be better quality wise to have you guys submit a 5mbps mpeg2 file than a quant 2 xvid file. Lemme do some tests and get back to you on it.

Trythil and I are the only two insane enough to do video editing in Linux.
Hahah, technically you did, by sprouting out that Linux + Cinelerra is great.
I want to edit in Linux anyways, now that I went through the trouble of partitioning my HD and everything. I'll still edit in Windows, just not as often.

Something else random re: Cinelerra --NicholasDWolfwood wrote: AD suggested to me to just de-interlace and change the framerate to 24fps, so that's what I'm just going to do. It's harder to do IVTC in Linux, since Cinelerra's IVTC filter is shitty, and trythil is trying to port Telecide, but I don't know how he's doing with that.
The IVTC filter actually does a really good job if you allow it to work from the beginning of the clip on which it is applied to. (It works like VirtualDub's Telecide.) You can therefore use IVTC when appropriate and decimate. No need for Telecide.

I find it all too ironic that I might have to necropost to say this, but it must be said, and it might as well be on this thread.
Unless anyone can think of any reason I shouldnt, I think Im going to pull the plug on this project. There isnt enough interest, the idea sucks, and I dont think I have the time or energy to take care of it. This project was doomed to die.

I agree, my Premiere is being a bitch and wont render. I've reinstalled like six times, too! Eck, I'm too busy with Project Vertigo for Strata anyway.Ashton wrote:I find it all too ironic that I might have to necropost to say this, but it must be said, and it might as well be on this thread.

Oh well...saves me a project!
Doesn't matter though, I still have like 5 to do anyway. 1 in progress (1min done in 10-15hr! I'm on a roll!) plus 1 will be in progress once I get my 180GB HD and setup KDE for Linux. (NES Project)
If you want to still do this when you come back to the US of A, I'll still do the video, just I'll have to work on 4 videos simultaniously (I think I'm going to talk to Non-Professional and resign from the Albuquerque video, that'll put me down to 3 vids sim.)
