I have one file in front of me but I don't know what type of file it is and I know I'm supposed to have two. Also, how do I add the filters? I looked at one guide and it said that I should go under Video and then to Add Filters but I don't have any options like that under Video.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
You know, we all skipped over this for more than a month. =/ Sorry.

DGIndex should produce two files; an AVS file and a D2V file. You should be more concerned with the AVS file. You can add your filters directly to the AVS file by opening it up in notepad and writing your filters in. Depending on what specifically you wish to do, we can help you with what commands you will need.

I used Windows movie maker, and when I finished my video I saved it as a windows media file, but apparently my computer was lagging the whole time I was making the video so all my timing for it was off. (Not to mention my program kept shutting down.) I tried to fix it, but it wouldn't save or convert the whole video and would only play halfway through. So I just stuck with what I had, is there anyway to prevent this in the future, or something?

What are the specs on your computer? What type of source footage are using? When was the last time you cleaned your computer (run spyware detection, anti-virus, defragmented, streamlined your start up group, deleted old or unnecessary programs...)?

hi, i'm already know the basics of how to make an amv

here is how i do it, i download my anime (naruto amv maker) from [REMOVED], after its done, i save it to a folder, the i copy the episode to my divx folder, and i open windows movie maker, then import them, then make the amvs

have a few questions

1. how do i crop the subtitles out, when i don't have the raw episodes(i don't rip dvds to my cp, becuase i have a bad dvd drive, and my cd drive is outdated)

2. is there another kind of movie maker? and if so what is it?

3. and if there are any other methods to make amvs, what are they?

it would be a great help :>

I'm getting clips from dvds using VirtualDubMod, but it's taking up a lot of harddrive space I just don't have. Any alternatives to getting clips so that my computer isn't filled to bursting?

let my clarify how I'm getting the clips; I am following this guide's way of decrypt->DGIndex->VDM

Really? Because you could have fooled me. I'm not going to sugarcoat my response here, you obviously did not read the sticky at all. I am glad you posted in it, but come on.
1. how do i crop the subtitles out, when i don't have the raw episodes(i don't rip dvds to my cp, becuase i have a bad dvd drive, and my cd drive is outdated)

2. is there another kind of movie maker? and if so what is it?

1). VirtualDubMod will crop if you demand a GUI, avisynth will also crop if you feed it the appropriate command.

2). There are a number of other editing suites available. Please revisit the first page of this thread for details.

3). There are many methods involved in the creation of any video editing project, and AMVs are no exception. What do you mean specifically?

Yes, you could edit directly from AVS files. There is nothing wrong with this other than the fact that if you should need to reindex at some later date you may have to readjust every single edit you made (I had this happen when my D2V file from Popularity got corrupted). It wasn't that bad, only by a few seconds. It could have been worse. I don't recommend it. Alternatively, if you're happy with a certain section of editing, you could export it out and burn your clips to DVD, replacing them on the timeline with the export you just made, and making another project file to go with the clips in case you need to backtrack... Clipping is the safest method, although, as you say, not always practical.

Wow, there is a lot of info on this sticky!! (And I actually made notes for later  )

I have been tinkering with making movies for a while now using mainly home video footage of holidays and such. I have had an idea for an AMV in my head for ages and I wont let me sleep so I figured I’d give in to its demands!!

I rip the DVDs using the DVD decoder suggested and that’s all hunky-dory. I use power director express to make my movies (I know some people don’t like it but everyone has there own preferences and it has always suited my needs) and this can actually use the VOB files after 'phasing' them or something. Do I still need to get it converted to the AVS file and do the filtering stuff?

I do have the entire AMVapps package but there seems to be an awful lot of programs with strange vowel ridden names!! Lol. I’m going to try running form ripped footage thorough the system later; I just didn’t want to mess anything up ;)

p.s: to everyone who started making these when they were 13 or whatever. well done! i wish i could have started younger, would have had more time. 22 and making my first AMVs. :D

I'm going to guess Phasing is an odd name for "deinterlacing." You should always use AVS and do the filtering commands. No one will force you to, but it'll make your output a lot cleaner.
