ok, just checking! thank you!Kionon wrote:I'm going to guess Phasing is an odd name for "deinterlacing." You should always use AVS and do the filtering commands. No one will force you to, but it'll make your output a lot cleaner.freaky anime chick wrote:Do I still need to get it converted to the AVS file and do the filtering stuff?

DVD footage >
If majority of footage is 1280x720: make vegas project 1280x720
If majority of footage is 720x480 but project wants 640x480: make project 640x480 and just uncheck "maintain aspect ratio" on all events. Skewing is acceptable from 640x480 and 720x480.
If majority of footage is 704x396, and project wants 640x480, make project 704x396, and then in VirtualDubMod, add a Lanczos3 resize with framesize 640x360 and Letterbox size (check the box) 640x480.
Final:
Do post processing filtering, and use TMPEg2nc to get mpeg2 renders at 100% constant quality : I can often get under 100 mb if I'm lucky (just decrease the percentage if you can't)
This should be helpful.
- DVD Decrypter
- DGIndex each vob > save project as d2v
- Use TFM avisynth filter & Mpeg2Source to frameserve whole episodes
- Use Vfapi to get into vegas
- Use MKVextractGUI to get the video out. IF YOU GET A h264 file, delete it and continue this list. Else, do the step depending on what you get.
- Virtualdubmod to get chunks (I hate it when I get to this step.)
- use OGM to AVI, and then if its DIVX, use the next list.
- Avisource > Vfapi

... www.google.com's freaking FIRST RESULT for "mkvextractgui" was:
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/MKVExtractGUI
<_<...
Anyway, a second note, if you get a h264 file out of a mkv, just delete it as I said, but then vdubmod tends to crash with modern mkv file import, so you'll have to DirectShowSource it into Vdubmod (actually, for speed, you can go file > open with avisynth, select "all files..." in the show scroller and "directshowsource" as the import mode. It ignores the sub stream by default, but you can actually export it there from vdubmod for the occasional project.

OPH you completely misread my tutorial. My bad:
no, those "sublists" are in themselves INDEPENDENT. If you have dvd footage, do those 4 steps ONLY and you'll be ready for import. If you have mkv footage, do those steps, etc. Don't do the dvd footage steps, then do the mkv steps on the footage you recevie
the reason i posted was to make matters simpler but it looks like I messed up
