I'm completely new to all of this, and I've gotten to the point of needing to convert my .dv2 file into an .avs file. I am so completely lost.

i think dgindex automatically creates an .avs file for you now. it should be in the same folder as the .d2v with the same name but with an .avs extension. you can open the .avs file with notepad to edit the script, and you can open the .avs file with virtualdub or premiere to preview and/or render the movie.yuricat wrote:Sorry if this is a retarded place to put this, but I've been studying AbsoluteDestiny's(?) as if it were a bible. I've got a question:
I realize that you guys are very much against using downloaded footage, however, I think this would throw a bit of a wrench into that particular statement.
I'm planning on using a very new anime, which is yet to be licensed, meaning that there are no DVDs available in english, and I don't know if it has been released on DVD yet in japan (Not that I would have the money either way, since I'm totally broke and don't have a job.)
This means that I must now download the raws from wherever I can get them. This eliminates some of the issues you guys have with using fansubs anyway, since the files themselves are not an illegal modification of a video, and are also of rather good quality, considering that nowdays any modern fansub release looks damn near as good as DVD quality, thanks to those awesome raw providers.
Regardless of what I hear here I still plan on using raws, if I can get a hold of them (I'm rather new at using share, so that's my main hurdle.) But I would like to see what you guys have to say about this particular point.

chopping up the episodes, mixing them with music and then distributing it online without proper consent from the copyright holders - what we call "making an AMV" - is already illegal. If bobbias doesn't have it in his power to "give back to the industry" by buying the DVDs, because they don't exist yet or because it would cut out of his lunch money/rent/light bill/cancer treatment doesn't mean he has less of a right to break international copyright laws than we do. We're all just as wrong as him, regardless of how many plastic disks we bought from Viz.
And God spoke unto the Chicken, and He said: "Thou shalt crosseth the road", and the Chicken did cross the road, and there was much rejoicing.
