I think your dealing out of the realm of logic there, FC. making a masterpiece very EASILY takes more effort than digging a ditch, even if said ditch is the panama canal and said masterpiece is the Mona Lisa. You could say some masterpieces were made on 'accident' and the Mona Lisa is just the painting of some chick, but I'm sure most works of art are due to years of experience and days, weeks, even YEARS of work. Projects like the Panama Canal could take years, but their a set amount of time. So in the end, they don't relate, it's apples an oranges. I'll just tell you what I always tell my anime hating parents when they want me to make something PRODUCTIVE out of my life , "you just don't have any respect for what I do!!" *crys*.

so you all heard of Machinima?? basically it's just Game-based MVs. Apparently there's this big ole hubbub about copyright restrictions there and certain members are crying foul!! lol
http://www.machinima.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8862 (not the primary topic on the matter, just one I hunted up a few months after the fact)
I was made aware of this issue just recently by me getting a chance to go through some old magazines. It's pretty hilarious given that the only thing stopping us from going through the same issue is that the Anime companies just don't give a shit what we do. Pretty interesting really, I suggest keeping an eye on this issue.
How is machinima different from game based amvs?? it doesn't really use songs (most are skits like RVB) and, unlike us, one of the biggest issues is when the game companies say 'I don't want you selling our work!!'
What's funny is... it's considered pirating because we DON'T sell these. It's considered copyright plaigerism if we DO sell these! Might as well go eat worms.

A little bit off topic, but basically we're no different from machinima, we just somehow manage to slip under the radar... for the most part. Thisthread is more along the lines of what you're talking about.

as for why this topic didn't get locked, it's nothing personal against denitro. these topics don't belong in general amv, but i'd decided to turn my eyes away from this one as long as it doesn't get out of hand.

This is true of me Todd, but as I'm sure you know my AMVs are generally edited fast too.Fall_Child42 wrote:The ability to use effects or I guess the ability to integrate the effects easier facilitating and propagating their use, shows me that much more work is often put into AMVs (on a purely time consumption basis of course any other measurement is nearly impossible to take) then the much more simply put together LA videos ... Freefall [AMV] - 14 hours.
Chimera [AMV] - 2 days.
Adrenaline Junkie [LAMV] - 4 hours.
Parting Ways [LAMV] - 2 days.
Besides, most of my LAMVs were edited this year, so by this point I've already established my 'edit really fast' thing. So I think if I got off my ass and edited another AMV it'd be handled exactly the same.
On the other hand if you look at, say, the Sin City video I started a year ago, and still havn't finished, I've probably put more work into that then any other video I've worked on, AMVs included.
It's all relative.

I'm not saying you Can't edit AMVs fast, nor am I saying that you can't put alot of effects into a LAMV but with the admission of the article, and multiple people that make LAMV Effects are hard and therefore not used... and seeing as how according to the article AMVs facilitate effects, and judging by the completely arbitrary system of popularity that is the Top Ten Percent... Effects are well liked and heavily utilized, these effects require alot more work than the simple hard cuts and crossfades that dominate the LAMV scene.
so I am still in opposition to the articles claim that LAMVs as a whole take more "work" than AMVs

They answer is no. I suggest you put them either in a blog style (LJ) or make a personnal website. There's lots of free hosting places out there.Epical Zamora wrote:Sorry for the double post, but is it alright to put LAMVs in our catalogue as long as they're not hosted locally?
23:19 (snip) I actually agree with everything quadir says.

It's not a matter of hosting, hence why I mentioned NOT hosting locally. Fact is, people like music videos, anime or not. I'm definitely not speaking on the whole here, but there's a boatload of people I'm sure who enjoy fan made music videos, anime or not. It seems narrow-sighted not to admit growth in this community. Currently there is no place where someone can go to find a wealth of LAMVs. So why not utilize the largest fan made music video website in existence? Should it REALLY matter whether the source is anime or live action? And for god's sake, no one bring up the argument that it's ANIME music videos .org and not live-action music videos .org. That's a ridiculous argument.quadir wrote:They answer is no. I suggest you put them either in a blog style (LJ) or make a personnal website.
