Highly likely. I'd say that 800,000+ user number on the main page is probably half bots/spammers. Kinda surprised the most online number was that low considering.8bit_samurai wrote:I asked the same thing some time ago, and iirc, the conclusion was bots, or something along those lines.Phantasmagoriat wrote: Also:... I wish I could have been there. Was there something special about that date/time?

Regardless of the number, I think it still indicates a peak timeframe. (I don't know much about bots, but I assume there is a positive correlation between forum activity and # of bots...)BasharOfTheAges wrote:Highly likely. Yeah, I should have been more clear, sorry, but you do raise some good questions:AceD wrote:but yes...i get what you mean either way, maybe i was twisting it a little.
What exactly happened after 2006?
(did the AMV-scene actually start to die off? Did it simply move elsewhere like YouTube (that's my guess)? But is it more active, and still growing? etc... )
...it's really hard to quantify this sort of thing... but the search results for "AMV" on youtube returned 43,000 results. I don't know what the results would be in 2006-present, but even that would fluctuate as videos get uploaded/taken-down... not to mention duplicate results...
man. if only everyone cataloged their AMV's on the org...
But that would make waaayyy toooo much sense.

Re: Golden age of AMVs?
not really actually. it's more about how willing the mods are to delete the spam accounts and how long the website has been around for, how lax internet security is at he time, how much luck you're having spreading your botnet, patterns of attack vectors, etc. It's extremely non-corrilated. if any of them are still active they could just as easily show up right now.Phantasmagoriat wrote:Regardless of the number, I think it still indicates a peak timeframe. Just a bit of insight - they do still show up.BasharOfTheAges wrote:not really actually. it's more about how willing the mods are to delete the spam accounts and how long the website has been around for, how lax internet security is at he time, how much luck you're having spreading your botnet, patterns of attack vectors, etc. It's extremely non-corrilated. if any of them are still active they could just as easily show up right now.Phantasmagoriat wrote:Regardless of the number, I think it still indicates a peak timeframe. Words go missing when I post from my phone. There should have been an "all" in there. As in they could all just show up (in mass) at any time.

We should talk about all years then. For the editors that have been editing more than 10 years: What was the differences in the AMV World at 90s, 2000-2002, 2003-2005,2006-2008,2008 to actual year?

i could write about the "golden age for me" but i dont know about the rest of the community... I think we are still too young of an art form to have a "golden age" yet.

Re: Golden age of AMVs?
Right now, my best guess at the number of bot/spam accounts is around 125,000.BasharOfTheAges wrote:Highly likely. I'd say that 800,000+ user number on the main page is probably half bots/spammers. Unfortunately, I can't get an actual number until I get an environment where a runaway sql query won't affect the org.
Back on topic...
It's true that activity is declining, but at the same time I think that the quality is getting better (the worst ones are staying relatively the same, but the better ones are getting better).
I don't define a "golden age" based on activity alone, so I'd say 2007-2009 were a good balance of forum activity, innovative techniques and interesting videos.
