Re: The Lip Flapper : Volume 19 - Chiikaboom
..
Lots of the responses here make me feel like i'm the only person who edits this way. ~_~;
The fact that a person like me who loves anime and makes amvs and wants to see her favorite scenes to good music is such a rare thing here makes me wonder why this site is called animemusicvideos.org. Why are we restricting the footage to anime then when lots of people dont even watch or like what they're editing with? If you have fun doing that.. okay.. but it baffles me how thats the majority and my views on amvs is such a rare thing. Hell even in the latest IC round we aren't using anime! It seems to me that for a site dedicated to the creation of anime music videos... theres sure a real lack of actual anime fans.
And the whole art deal.. i'm still confused as to why it even matters? Is something that one doesn't consider art automatically have no creative merit? I mean.. I watch an amv and I can't sit there and be like "this is art". Thats just the way I think, and it shouldn't matter since art is subjective. When tell someone is wrong for thinking amvs are arent or doesn't, you're not helping with the whole pretentiousness associated with the word 'art'.
Thanks to everyone who left nice comments ^^

I think a more important question then whether amvs are art or not, and that was inconviently left out of the interview, is why must the aardvarks be flended? O:

Awesome read!
I really understand where's she's coming from with the "I edit because I'm an anime fan" statement. All of her new HxH videos just made me want to reread the manga! I don't know why, bu I naturally steered clear of some of my favorite series like HxH and Getbackers. I guess I subconsciously thought those series were overused and never used them. But now this makes me all the more willing to use them in a chain of amvs!

Even just in this thread, you're so not in the minority, I'm not sure where you're getting that idea, aside from my one post. :pCodeZTM wrote:I think what you said about making videos for the fandom is a really great thing that editors should do from time to time.

I remember that Re-Evo chat too =)
I like your vids a lot Chii. I'm glad you edit because you like to, and don't really care much about what people think

Re: The Lip Flapper : Volume 19 - Chiikaboom
Everything that you make, even when you write or sing is art. Art is everywhere, the problem comes when you got only 1 vision about it and you can't simply move to other idea. The AMVs are not an exception. But it's true that is a hobby in first place, not a professional 'career' unless someone here gains money making AMVs :O
The idea of putting together the music and the anime is the reason why all we're here. Perhaps the reason you've left the org was because sometimes we instead of simply enjoying the videos, we're like the Judges of 'Editing for a Dream' or we simply think the AMV should be made at only 1 way, avoiding the overused footages and simply limiting the imagination.

Re: The Lip Flapper : Volume 19 - Chiikaboom
To a certain point, the whole "is it art?" argument is tired and overblown. But I wasn't saying what's bolded... the opposite, in fact. Even if you don't consider your own stuff as "art" it still classifies as it . I agree with Bashar as well. It's largely a meaningless classification. But that doesn't stop people from labeling certain videos as "artistic." Take that for what you will.Chiikaboom wrote:And the whole art deal.. i'm still confused as to why it even matters? I also don't sit there and think about whether an AMV is art. In fact, I usually don't even think about the story / concept until I've watched the video multiple times, and it's evident that the editor put emphasis on it. You take from an AMV what you want... if it works for you just because it uses an anime you like and is well-made, then that's great! There are multiple ways to enjoy a video, there is no "right" or "wrong" way.Chiikaboom wrote:I mean.. I watch an amv and I can't sit there and be like "this is art". Re: The Lip Flapper : Volume 19 - Chiikaboom
I'd wager the bulk of people wouldn't describe themselves as big anime fans. That isn't to say they don't like it, but there are lots of levels of interest between weaboo and no interest whatsoever. How they choose to label it varies greatly from person to person.
Personally, I don't consider myself a big fan of anything. It's unhealthy to be obsessive... and I apparently lack the emotional capacity to feel joy.
I think this could possibly be a simple lack of defined terminology. A communications problem of sorts.
