Ohh I think the music should is a HUGE part, I just mean that sometimes I have thought I would hate a video based on the song selection due to my particular preferences but when I watched it, the lyrics fit very well and I couldn't deny that it was a good concept, whether *I* like the song or not.

I have tried searching on my musical tastes but find songs I love coupled with anime that it doesn't work with at all.

But then I have found some really great AMVs that have the perfect blend of both.

I kinda like it when a video uses the song to enhance the mood.

If the music sucks, why torture youself for 3/4/5 minutes suffering through a vid you'll never like anyways.

Soo... .that would be 100% right?

Ultimately, all the videos in my "keepers" file are done to songs that I like, or wound up liking , even if uh... not a `technical masterpiece'.

When I first started watching, I'd be so amazed at the video quality that some people managed to get sometimes I'd keep them just for inspiration whether I liked it or not. Since it would appear that more and more people have learned to follow the guides, even the sucky videos can still look good, as the editors have learned to follow directions, but apparently not how to put coherent thought into creation.

in otherwords they are like robots who can only follow a set of instructions and don't think for themselves?

I would say Music is about 80% important to me. If I don't like the song period, I won't like the AMV, Unless the AMV has something realy special about it that wowed me. There have been cases where I was prety nutral about a song, and the AMV made me like the song more after watching it. I have pretty varried taste in music anyway that most AMVs that are done right I do end up enjoying. But I do agree that if the AMV is butchered to a song I like, I still may not enjoy the AMV even though i like the song. THis has happened to me in a few cases.

I don't know, maybe. I've seen a lot of videos that looked great, but in terms of timing, or concept, or even a slightly appropriate matchup sucked big time. Eventually, as the technology gets easier to use (studio 8 for example, you don't even have to mark in out points or use a razor as it does all the slicing for you ahead of time you can just stack clips and hit output.) and the formats begin to become standardized it all looks great. Honestly, if you can read directions and follow the guides you can make a video that looks dvd quality. Oh, well. I like to remember that Peter Jacson did Meet the Feebles, and Dead Alive before he did the Rings thing. I figure that ideas are about as important as the actual content of the video.

I saw a video that was done to Doom2 music recently and was utterly blown away by the music, as an example. I'd have to say that with the homogenized look of videos over time, music is really the only defining factor.

:P I know you enjoyed that.

Euphoria-don't like the song, but it's my fave. Is it so hard to understand? When there are numerous aspects that astonished me like in Euphoria (great theme, great effects, great clip choice) the song simply isn't quite necessary for me. Sure, I'm not going to listen to some frekin' yelling with lyrics such as "Die!!!Die!!!" .

Mitternacht-one of the rare videos where song choice actually made me luv it."Wenn die gronde trauert tragen..." :acdc:

One more thing about editing. If I despise the song to the bone that I can't listen to it, I'll give credit to the creator by watching it to the end and if I do see enourmous ammount of effort in editing of course I'm gonna at least respect him for that.
