I agree with your point but I don't know about dramatically.

# Creators 12725

Highly scientific () estimate of creators who currently buy significant extra anime: Total/6 = 2,000 or less

insignificantly might be a better word. (but our numbers are growing!)

If Anyone (Ari, Mods with better stats) wants to try to get a better estimate of DVD using creators I'm courios as to what the real number might be.

I believe that the actual use is illegal, regardless of credit given.

Screw it and tell the truth, it's illegal no matter how you phrase it, it's illegal why fight the truth, but it's more like a law that never gets inforced, who knows one day they might crack down on us hopeless nerds.

And if they day comes...

True. If they (law/anime distributers) don't care, why should we? No matter who you got in a argument with, fuck em and go on with your hobby till somone that matters cares.

Considering this topic comes up every day, I'd say we seem to care a hell of a lot more about it than any company would.

Um.... this looks like it's going to be a flaming thread..
So, I will say that it's a legal grey area. Which will probally
change with the times :)

I dunno, but call me crazy... it can't be completely illegal if something like this:

http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... hp?v=26272

made it's way onto an anime distributor's DVD itself.

Obviously there are some laws for it, and some laws against it. The legality is not so much a question as if it's accepted. It's up to the distributor to get angry at somebody for infringing on copyright, and oftentimes, they seem to turn a blind eye to it due to the fact that it is free advertising (as noted above). I can't say anything about the music section, but as far as video, I think it's pretty clear that at least ONE distributor seems to like the idea of AMVs (and considering it is one of the most prominent distributors in America, its all the better).

Actually mr yogurt if you read his post he could only work with the material they had the rights to IE the begginning and ending songs.

Who the hell cares if our hobby is illegal? The fact is nobody. We are doing 3 good things.

1.Free avertising on so many levels. I saw a metallica vid to kenshin ova I went out and bought samurai x . I saw a video using Sr 71 I went out and got love hina then got the sr71 cd.

2.We just generate money we do not make it.

3. Sharing our hobby with other people and getting them addicted.

So except for the prince thing. What's generating the fear here? I don't have any. The people making the money don't care about your hobby. If anything they love it. THey send their people to shows that feature amvs. Can anybody show me one example of a company saying stop using our animation to make your videos???? Their fanbase is their sells what if Parmount sued everyone that had a costume likeness of their characters. No fanbase no money! Fans are the best advertising. Our worst enemys in this community are people who freely distribute commercially available propertys.

Undertow wrote:Yeah that's right, i'm in discussion with a representative from Dybex (dutch anime publishing company, like ADV and such), and i want to know what the law says about AMVs. I think there was something from a law that allows us to make AMVs, and we can't use more that 30 seconds of unedited footage in it. He wants to know the specific law that supports our great hobby. So does anyone know of any specific law that allows us to do this and dodge the licencing laws?
This is why this started. He got in an argument and then we got in depth to it. I don't think theres any fear out there of getting busted. And if there is, think about the worste that could happen. Get a fine, maybe go to jail for a night and try not to drop the soap.
