I agree with Voices. Not only has this topic been beaten to death, it is a fight not worth fighting. How can we stop it? If it is in public eye, chances are it will be copied. Not everyone realizes that it offends some people. From a pragmatic standpoint, the only real solution is to keep them to yourselves.
If it bugs you that someone stole your video and is claiming it, use PMs and the mod drop box. I really don't think everyone wants to hear about it
Oh, and about the warning at the beginning: it states it's okay to use it privately at home. The DMCA, however, states that by breaking the encryption we break the law. It's more geared toward Piracy, not Plagiarism.

Re: AMV Plagiarism?
Once, someone made a video entry for my Bachelorette video (complete with download link)...in the entry, he said he had made it for his girlfriend. I downloaded the video, and it was my exact video. I felt like emailing him with "Well, since I'm the one who actually made the video, does that mean I get to fuck your girlfriend?"Rinny wrote:Also, post any incredible Plariarishious AMVs here.
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

First off, I think it needs to be said that few people will complain about a few stollen scenes. So [insert name here - you know who you are], don't get your panties in a bunch. We're not flaming your behavior, or that of the others who get all riled when this topic comes up. You're safe. We know you didn't reproduce entire sections, you just stole and used various sources because of laziness. Since few people can tell where you got your clips from, it doesn't matter much. The more you get scared and angry and defensive, the more attention you bring to yourselves. Hush, this isn't about you or your crime (and if you really didn't consider it a crime, you wouldn't be so defensive about it).
Personally I don't care about the vids that rely *entirely* on mixes of dozens of source videos. Odds are good they don't reproduce *any* of the original creators' thoughts, just the footage itself. That's not plagiarism (the source of the footage is the anime, and it is cited), so it's not the issue here.
Honestly. All of you people who complain because you've stollen clips and used them, stop whining. We don't care if you did that. We're not yelling at you or threatening to turn you in to be burned at the steak. We're out to get those people who reproduce entire videos because they can't be bothered to think for themselves.
This is like listening to the Jaywalkers defend the Petty Thieve Guild because they think anyone who does something wrong deserves the same crime - and if we punish the others, we'll punish them, too. It doesn't work that way. Different offense = different result.
If you guys want a thread about stealing random clips and how it should be applauded, [insert name here - remember your last thread?], then make one yourself. This isn't about that.
And to stay on-topic, a friend of mine made Euphoria a few weeks ago on her computer. She tells me it's a great vid. And it only took her ten minutes to make. Think she should put it on local before making "It's Tricky" next? I'm just glad she was playing a prank on me (with the beta) - since there really are people in this thread who would have answered "yes".

For some reason I never get tired of you posting that story.Kusoyaro wrote:Once, someone made a video entry for my Bachelorette video (complete with download link)...in the entry, he said he had made it for his girlfriend. But you admit it.BogoSort wrote:You may start ostracizing me now. I've ripped off video footage from other amvs without contacting their creator.
To be a proper plagiarist, you have to claim the work (all of the work, not just the Frankenstein combination) as your own. If you admit it's not yours, you can't join the Plaigarist Club. ;p

Then whats the point of ever talking. A lot of things are plagiarised that go unnoticed, but at the same time, if a certain number of sources say the same information, then it is considered common knowledge. Common knowledge is not necessary to site. It's like saying the sky is blue. I'm sure it's written down somewhere, and I'm sure people say it everyday, but does that make it plagiarism for me to write it down.... I certainly hope not.inthesto wrote:I hereby declare all written language plagiarism, because we're using words that somebody else invented a long time ago without giving them credit.

its not plagerism if you take clips that werent edited, because everyone more than likely has that exact same clip.. i think it is only plagerism or breaking some copyright laws when you steal a clip that someone edited and spruced it up with cool effects, and say that you added all the extra eye candy..
but oh well, i know i used other peoples clips in my video, which is the only one i made and will probably be the last one i make, but i dont really care or feel guilty.. i said where i got the footage from... no shame in saving time and money to make a video for FUN.. key word people.. amvs are for FUN... its not a crime if you dont want to buy equipment and materials to make an AMV as long as your not profiting from it.. thats the bottom line....
watch me get flamed..
