well if you really want to get technical... the millitary was the one who funded the development of the internet and tcp/ip (the internet is nothing without it, for now).... The Department of Defence commissioned ARPA to develop these protocols and research networks. The internet was not started for colleges or even home use, but to have a reliable communication network in case of a worldwar 3 senario (cold war)...

i think thats correct... i'm about 90% sure -_-

. well, you've got your history a little mixxed up, but yeah - the Military jumped
on the band-wagon of the Auto-Von ( a world wide Telephone cabling )
and
both were used in the 1980's
