I'm guessing all this is over that girl claiming you stole...
If your so upset about the legallity now why did you ever make vids in the first place?
I understand you're mad because you were mistreated, but I think you're taking it to extremes...if you want your vid to be accessable then host it on your own. If they had done that to me I would have just simply said my peace, put it up somewhere else and just banned the e-mail addy of the person harrassing me. I'm not saying what that girl did to you was ok, she over reacted too. Just step back, take a deep breath and handle this more rationally.

Also, to everyone else: debating this issue could last forever and it seems everytime I browse this forum there's a new post that turns into this topic. If you want to debate legality perhaps we should dedicate a sticky to it and any copyright info we can find. That or just drop it. This is supposed to be a creative outlet that should be enjoyed...not a stewwing pot of stress soup.

just my two cents
if you can't take the meat, get out of the kitchen

i made my videos under the impression it was all legal. and yes because of what happened to made me realize.. that she doesnt own the music or have permission to rip dvds, so is it really legal? so i searched and found out. i enjoyed making videos but... if you cant post where to download legal footage then why can you illegaly rip dvds and use that here? and same with music? just made me wonder and so i asked and well. found out ita illegal. so i asked to have all my videos deleted removed as i want nothing to do with the illegalness of this. really she didnt make the movie just ripped the video so she doesnt own it legally either. just an eye opener to me.

Your hands are already soaked with the blood of 'copyright infringement'.

Ok truthfully you do not know what you're talking about. Ripping DVDs and music is not illegal, for your own personal use. Distributing them may be iffy. However! You are allowed to have backups of your media, so it is very possible that people in this community do indeed have the original DVDs/CDs of the AMVs they download.

But you're also missing the big picture. The goal is not to distro as much music or anime as possible. It's to package them together into our own little creation. A good AMV is positive to both anime and music. Meanwhile some IRC distro channel is churning out a couple ripped CDs from the latest artist every week! Or some guy is video tapping The Incredibles thanks to his buddy who works at a theatre... Those people are doing more harm than what we're doing.

Also it doesn't help your cause that you possibly took footage from another persons AMV and then got chewed out by it. Even if you didn't steal the footage your beef should be with Amazonmandy or whatever, not with the entire AMV community. Your tell mommy/dady tactics are pretty sad, especially since your hand was in the cookie jar already and you're now trying to hide the crumbs.

Also stupidity is not an excuse...

The sooner the better.

And good riddance.
"If someone feels the need to 'express' himself or herself with a huge graphical 'singature' that has nothing to do with anything, that person should reevaluate his or her reasons for needing said form of expression, possibly with the help of a licensed mental health practitioner."

Alright.

Consider yourself targeted, too.

Square Enix, by the way, takes copyright protection quite seriously.
