Otohiko wrote:Actually, the one thing that really impresses me is when someone, so to say, blows my head off with something I didn't expect. This happened several times in AMV's. Just something completely out of nowhere, "ex nihilo", that grabs me in some way for which I was caught unprepared.

This isn't originality; it's something more. Sometimes it's, in fact, the opposite of originality. But it IS the truest form of artistry, for me.
The more Otohiko talks, the more I'm convinced he's a professional crazy old man who does nothing but speak in riddles.

As for what impresses me, I'm not sure. Anything technically difficult will make me go "Wow, that's impressive", but generally the videos that really leave an impact on me are the ones that can communicate emotions.

When people use effects in such a way that if I hadn't of seen the show I would never have noticed them.

I'm impressed with videos that actually have a nice flow and tell a story. I'm impressed when I see a Kenshin video that actually make some sense and has great capture quality. Which I've only seen a few I keep. I really wish there were some more Outlaw Star videos like Light of Day. That video really impressed me and for its time when it was created. It was pretty advanced. I'm also impressed by videos like Shounen Bushidou and Elvis vs. Anime. These videos are really time consuming videos and are enjoyable to watch.

Why does nobody ever mention Dedicated to MIR Station when it comes to effects?
