one of my videos has over 1400 STAR RATINGS... its been steadily dropping since 1200 o.0 even at high ammounts of downloads the star rating still has room to fluxuate

If your videos (at least in my case have about 100 downloads) it pictures the trend quite well, although, to come back to the top, I can't understand why the average likes an average ecchi video which was made in 4 days better than a successful drama-video with an effort of 6 months. Okay as if I was someone to understand what people think  .
I guess thats the problem since most people just give you stars depending on how much they liked it and not really because they think it was technically well made. I usually give my stars depending on how it looks for example if the timing was precise or the effects were original it could also be some stupid Naruto amv it'd still get 4 or even 5 stars even though it was not my cup of tea. And most others I guess just watch the video and say "ugh, death metal, that sucks" even if the video was brilliant.

Ileave stars based on how WELL I like it. I leave ops based on how well it's DONE. I like crap sometimes. I like when gum sticks in your sisters hair and she gives you 'the look'. I wouldn't call that productive or stuff I'd give a 10/ 10 for, but I'd give it a 5/ 5 and do it again and again.

It's not the simplicity that matters, it's all about the concept being too complex. Ppl just don't know what to put, so no matter how simple it is, it's just too complex!!

The star rating is a good isea, but i feel it should be programmed so that if you leave a rating of 1,2, or 3, you have to leave an opinion explaining why. This way the artist has something to work off of every time he gets negative feedback.
Otherwise you get people who rate videos with a one and never explain why, the artist doesn't know what to change, other people won't DL it because it has a bad rating, and the artist has lost a lot of integrity.
Just my view on it...

I've only been into AMVs for just over a year and I know that my own taste in what I like and what I don't has changed a lot in the past year. So too have the ratings I've given.

Is that fair? Maybe not but that's what it is. When I first saw an AMV at AnimeUSA last year I was really impressed. I rushed home and made one of my own. It was nothing more than an out of focus poorly timed slide show, but it was fun.

While I like to see high numbers I don't give a lot of credit to star ratings.

Did you enjoy making the AMV? Do you like watching the finished product? If so, chances are that others will too.
