If you want to set a high and barely imitatible goal for the sake of establishing a new groundbreaking concept, may I suggest spending a few months with a wildly popular source and creating a MAD-like creation so far removed from the current model, throw in Maya-esque rendered landscapes, and see what you get.
I'll pick up some source in Tokyo in a few weeks and we'll see where we can't go from there

Frankly, it depends on where you mean these barriers lie. Knowing you, I doubt you mean technical, espeically considering that we have no lack of technical-barrier-breaking here lately.
There's also not going to be a leader or an AMV direction as such since everyone is looking in different directions. The lazy krimhead weirdo like myself has little in common, for instance, with an anime fangirl who likes effects-rich videos to j-pop or something. It's hard to imagine two people like this ever agreeing on there being a 'leader' in AMVs.
I don't know, I don't see much to get flustered over. To me, all is right with AMVs, or I wouldn't be here. I watch only a few of them each month/year, but in the end I seem to make my choices well and enjoy them a hell of a lot. Far more than a perceived leader, I sorely miss the OT and the .org community as it was 3 years ago.

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

I say we should find the rock kevin caldwel has been hiding under and kick him out of there.
On a more serious note, AMV can evolve. One thing that I've tought about is not limiting ourselvs to the normal AMV model - "find a sons\audio and mach anime to it" - but rather directing our own movies and\or adapting stories using the AMV consept. Something similar to what Beo did, but develop it further.
Back on joking side, anyone up for "Romeo and Juliet - the MEP" ?

With imaginery saber in hand, I propse two battle royale's consisting each of.... 653,925 members total, subtract the 5..... 200,000 members each. The winner of each gets to be in the Romeo and Juliet MEP, with gender being modified as needed. After we're done, we'll have a smaller community, and this time gated. It'll keep Caldwell in, and most of the community in the last year out.MCWagner wrote:It seems less like a leader (or an ideal video, etc.) is needed, than a better sense of community. With the violent expansion of the community over the last five years or so, everything seems to have gotten too big and diffuse.
And to appease Beo, we'll crucify this guy: The newest registered user is Adam_E336

Our power to add stuff beyond what is in the original sources is very limited, as at a certain point it stops being an AMV and starts being original video-art....
