I don't think it helps to make rules. Apart from this rule: Know exactly what you're doing at all times. Sometimes it works where you assume it wouldn't. Sometimes it doesn't work where you assume it would. Just don't flail around doing shit randomly, make your choices and know what you're trying to accomplish, and you can break or follow "rules" when and where the situation dictates.
Conversely, if you do want to flail around doing shit randomly (because someone is going to pipe up about that) - own that, and review what you've done to see what effect it has afterward. In other words, if your answer to "Why did you do that thing there?" is "duhhhdunno," you're being halfassed and may run into trouble.
It's not really that hard.

Re: Lip synching -- cheesy?
This is the only statement in this thread which makes sense. Forget what's right and wrong, what's popular and not, just make the goddam video regardless of what others will think.Tyler_yj wrote:Stop to think about your stupid rules... Just create !!

Sorry, but as good as your vid is otherwise, I intend on making fun of those lipsyncs for a looooooooooong timeReigna wrote:Heh heh heh...dokool wrote:Lip-syncing can be done in any genre of video as long as it's done right - an otherwise great Drama video at AB this year was totally thrown off, in my opinion, by the lip-syncing during the chorus. I use lip sync in my videos. I've used it in comedy and in drama. Both have probably suck to others. However, I use it because it's adding to my vision in my head. For the comedy videos it makes a character do something or say something that normally won't happen. For my drama videos, when I do it right, it is to emphasize a particular line to get a connection between a character and the music at that moment to get a feeling out. It's a way to express that feeling that I want known, nothing more nothing less. I don't care if it seems amaturish, is out of character (i.e. male singer female character), or people might think it is pointless filler. If I want to do it I will do it. I'm not going to stop my creativity just because others says it doesn't look right or out of place. If people get what I am trying to show then great. If they don't then it happens. Tell me why it sucks and I'll try to correct it in a way that doesn't kill my creativity. (i.e. if lip flaps are off I'll try next time to make them more in sync.)
No more half cents from me.

but like I said, don't lip in drama unless you can do it PERFECTLY, matching the color and position 95 if not 100% of the time. And I'll add THINK IT OVER beforehand! Don't just lip because you got lip flap at that point and don't have anything else to do with it. Leave it ALONE!! Or better yet, find a better clip! In fact, if you have a point with lip flap someone could mistake as lip sync either PURPOSELEY mess it up of find a new clip! I'm DEFFINITELEY not against lipping in drama, just... NOBODDY WANTS TO LAUGH AT YOUR DRAMA VIDEO!!
