I often check out videos by creators i never heard of and i found some verry good videos too.
You shouldn't avoid a video just because its wmv. you can make some good videos in wmm and like Kikai said, other programs can export in wmv format too. ^^
You are always so helpfull, cheerful and nice.

This sounds just like the sound judgement I would expect to hear from you.

No one ever learned "Don't judge a book by it's cover"??? Just cause it's in .wmv doesn't equal suckage.

because it sometimes doenst take me that long to make an amv... but then again i have nothing else to do/no life ect.. so it only takes a week or less to make a vid O.o (hehe sometimes taking generalizations personally is fun :P lmao)

That might be why. What is the percentage of members that don't know about the forum? I would guess a lot of them. I was one them till late 2003. I like less clutter anyways in the announcement forum though really.
then theres the people who know about the forums but are afraid of being chewed out or harassed over their work, or the ones who are afraid that its pointless cause no one will want to watch their vid anyways... or ones who know that it wont go to help them get feedback... :/

then again there are those like me (when i first started) who didnt want to have anything to do with the forums, because the forums have a bad rep on this site

and this

statiscically from my experiences:

WMV usually equals suckage
AVI equals not so much suckage usually good amvs are in XVID/AVI
and most MP4s ive seen have been awesome O.o

but those are generalizations, not all WMVs are suckage, not all AVIs are good and well... so far i donno about MP4s... all i know is alot of the good editors have moved on to MP4...

however knowing this doesnt stop me from downloading a video... but it does make me expect almost everything to suck... unless it was made by a creator that i know doesnt suck.. O.o
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
but as for the actual topic at hand... most people either dont know/dont care about the forums, and thats why they arent announced... personally i think its better this way, imagine how flooded that forum would be if EVERYONE announced their amv in there... @_@
To put it another way, a high level of technical ability correlates with a high level of editing skill. If someone cares enough to go through the trouble of encoding x264 into an MP4 container, they also care enough to create a good video. Usually.
I announced the first two I made way back when I first joined the org. I haven't announced any of the three I've made since. I dunno I just don't think people will be all that interested in them plus if I want ops/reviews I'd probably go into the op exchange forum.
But for the most point I'd say people don't know about the amv announcement forum or they've seen people get negative comments on it(not that there is anything wrong with that) and don' t want any. Also they could have noticed how many of the 'unknowns' drop of the page with no comments.
Let me show you some WMVs and some Xvid avis and you can compare...that's a pretty bold generalization.
mp4 is NOT a video format. it' a container.
people tend to pass over wmv files cause WMM vids usually suck pretty bad. not exaclty the image quality, but most WMMers are just bad editors.
here's some knowledge. needles from my studio does his editing in freeware. wmm and imovie. just converts it to xvid afterwards to people will actually take time to watch it.
your choice of programs do not always reflect your editing skill
observe. this is WMM:
http://www.umbrellavideo.com/needles/wa ... 0n1nj4.zip
doesn't suck.
i assume that most WMMers are simply not dedicated enough to their work to invest in a higher end program, so i skip their vids.
many good and dedicated editors just don't have the money though.
(yes, i'm actually defending some of you WMMers)
still though, they should convert to an avi. it shows they are dedicated, even if all they have is freeware
lol, some you can compare? Why not you get the best wmv at a certain size you can think of and then Jad will get the best Xvid at the same size to compare. I don't think you are that technical at this type of stuff to compare. They've already done plenty of these comparisons. If someone sucks at compression on either or then it doesn't matter.. I personally don't know why people bitch so much about wmv, I've got so many of both though that it seems people that use wmv suck at encoding while more people that use xvid know what they are doing.
And if wmv was so bad then Microsoft wouldn't be releasing HD quality videos in wmv format. I've downloaded many HD trailers and gameplay videos in wmv format that I think it must be good or else people wouldn't be releasing HD videos in wmv format. If you don't believe me I could show you some sites that have HD downloads for video games and if you want to see some trailers from movies I could probably track that down as well.
