You know what's best about this thread?
The fact that it drifted from "why did you quit" into the "are there standards" discussion in only a few posts.
And as soon as it got too serious people started posting nonsense humour crap (see above)
Am I the only one to notice that this is getting on people's nerves so much that the topic about standards, effects and crews and cliques or whatever destroying the hobby for others keeps invading other discussions all the time?
I mean like, can't someone make a site announcment or something that puts this shit to an end? I have just lately started reading into the general forums threads but it seems like all I get from them is that people are totally pissed of at each other right now (a lot of the times even starting going off topic from the second post on)

1. An all ten Op, Sombody though your shit was so amazing they gave you perfect scores.
2. Sombody thought I'm gonna balance out all of these all ten ops this creator has been getting by giving him all 1's.
3. Someone unbeknownst to you uploads your video to youtube, with complete disregard to quality or synching, because they love you THAT MUCH.

I'd like an answer to that, too.AMV_4000 wrote:i still wanna know what you people consider a vet...
I figure it's someone old, with a familiar name and body of work, and who no longer is active. An official retirement would definitely place people like that in the 'vet' status.
Silver Moon made her 'last video' not too long ago and her reason for stopping was the ever-raising standards. Standards of videos in general, and standards she imposed upon herself:

I see that a lot from people I consider 'vets' in the community. They quit because of expectations (theirs or those of others). Then there are some who don't like the direction amvs are going (too immature, too elitist, etc). They quit because they don't like the people.
What's funny is that these are 'vets', so they're people who are already known and were once active. It's not too hard to figure why they would quit after time, or after a certain amount of praise and fan recognition (can't be a vet if no one knows you).
I'm more curious about why the oldtimer lurkers quit. Or why they continue to lurk and then suddenly post out of nowhere (first time in a year) in threads like this. What holds them to a hobby they aren't actively participating in? When do they reach the point where they quit lurking and just let go of the hobby altogether? To me that would be more interesting than learning why a former idol decided to retire while he was still popular.

i haven't edited in a while because the tedium involved in editing has outgrown the novelty and "wow i wonder if i can do that" factors. i've achieved many of the goals i'd set, like participating in MEPs and seeing my vid at a con. i still get urges to edit, but not strong enough to get me to edit hours on end anymore.
that and warcraft has called dibs on my soul.
i lurk the forums because i agreed to be a mod. >_> three more years till pension.
