Personally I consider the idea of studios a little silly, but if people want to have their little clubs, even one-person clubs - eh, fine!
I will never start my own studio and there's yet to be a studio that I would want to join AND which would actually take me. That doesn't meanwhile prevent me from having a good time and making my rounds of the AMV scene - not to mention having people who are reliably there to bounce any video work and ideas off of. I would say that my own 'inner circle' includes two people with vastly different artistic directions that could probably never be in one studio. I never saw that as a problem.
So, I say go forth and make your rounds of the community; impress people with your AMVs and stick to people who can and are willing to help you improve with editing.
