My philosophy on AMVs:

This smacks of Objectivist aesthetics (sorry, Kalium and trythil, not to open THAT can of worms again.... )...

My major thought that I have the moment I even start trying to make a video is that I have absolutely no control over my viewers' perceptions; I only have control over my timeline and my own perception. My goal is to project a concept onto said timeline using the various tools and techniques I have familiarized myself with. Whether or not that concept works for anyone else is a pretty big crap shoot.

Absolutely? That's one hell of a narrow definition of "control" you've got going there.

i think they all go under the categoy of entertain. you can divide that into subcategories like recontexualize and express but in the end the amv is meant to entertain people. how many people would watch an amv that was not entertaining in some way?

That said, laughter is the best medicine, so I suppose there is some truth in what you say.

personally, i find the DEEP meaning behind amvs to be just having fun. We've had a few threads like this before and i really don't see the point ... l
