That would've worked better from Basil, I think.

See?

2. Thou shalt not use downloaded music to make AMVs.
Allow me to point out the irony of the fact that phade will flame me for keeping a anti-inviso mod thread going ( Which I was really only using to blow off some steam, I guess he took it pretty seriously.)
But I get flamed for pointing out that using a fansub is specificaly against the rules. I don't like that rule either personaly, but I was under the impresion that everyone looked down on that kind of thing, as was expressed by people in other threads.[/quote]

For instance here is a quote of klinky comparing using downloaded footage to bank robbery.

It's an analogy. If you're going to rob a bank, and you expect bad consequences for doing so, you don't tell everyone that you intend to rob the bank and expect to pull it off easily. You just do it, or (hopefully) you don't.

Same with downloaded footage. Saying you use downloaded Evangelion footage that you don't own to make your vid will get you flamed. If you say nothing, maybe you will get away with it. It's more like the "don't ask, don't tell" policy in the army. You're less likely to get into trouble if you keep your mouth shut.

yes, but the thing that you are all tip toeing around that you are neglecting to mention is that the REASON you don't tell is because it is wrong. DAMN I hate this, I cannot believe I am somehow taking sides in an ethics argument that I am on the side I don't want to be on. Can you start pissing on people for using the fansubs and I start defending it?

Moral of this fucking story: Don't start an argument if you expect to become the Devil's Advocate for it.

but wouldnt that mean kthulu is the Devil's Advocate since he is the one defending the piracy and I'm arguing against it?

I have no real gripes about VHS fansubbers..they tend to control distibution pretty well, most importantly after the producted has been announced as licensed. I do have a problem with digisubs, and the ease that copies can and continue to be distributed through P2P progs even after a tittle has been licensed and released. I might glare at the music industries attempts to clamp down on .mp3 distrobution, but I have enough people I personally know working in various U.S. anime companies that I consider to be friends that I kinda get peeved when people trade pirated goods instead of buying legit products. These folks ae anime fans too, and I don't like to think that I'm not supporting them.
