When it comes to editing, I don't worry about length. However long the song is is how long my video will be. The exceptions are videos where I simply don't have any ideas for a certain part of a song that could be cut out, or I'm just so fricking sick of editing the thing that I want to cut a part of the song that could be cut to make it easier on me.

When watching videos, I've come to prefer shorter videos, though almost all my favorites are full-length, 4+ minutes long. I definitely agree with Beowulf that longer videos provide more opportunity to develop a full, complete concept, and generally provide a more intense emotional experience. You just have to be able to convey those feelings and concepts well, otherwise a long video will just be boring, no matter how innovative it is conceptually.

long or short it doesn't matter, I don't get more than 30 seconds in.
If you do not think so... you will DIE

1:30 - 2:00 long videos are the best length videos, granted to catch the audience's attention without leaving the aftertaste of 'too short'.

Tested and many times proven. Sumfin' about the attention span~

I prefer a well executed short video over a boring and to much dragging long video.

In IC: Just cut your song instead of makeing cheesy stuff!

Personally I tend to go now into the longer duration direction with 5+ videos. Which surprises me :|

4:30 is about as good as I go for song length, unless I know the song and it's a long one, "Fade to Red" by Kevin max is a 6:30 doozy, but is worth listening to first before trying to watch it with an AMV.

There are a lot of factors that contribute to making an AMV too long or too short.

One thing which might help newer creators is the basic AMV length test:
"Your AMV is too long when it starts sucking."

Shameless self-grats to Outlawed Productions for winning this thread =p

Does length really matter that much ...? I mean, as long as you enjoy it in the end, it's ok, right? You can have the longest one in the world, but if it's not fun or enjoyable then does it really matter how long it is? :uhoh:
